Can convert them straight across for LTC/BTC or hold them. They are really quite popular on Reddit and it might help them get a foothold.

I sold for the first few days, just thinking it was an easy way to mine BTC with my GPU, but I am holding them for now as the price seems to be dipping, and have a (very) minor amount of BTC set aside to buy them if the conditions looks right.

Exchange I use: https://www.cryptsy.com/

I'm mining these also but dumping them as fast as I can get them. With the amount of coins in the market already and the speed at which the price keeps falling I don't think these will be more than a fad. They are building up my bitcoin amount at a decent pace though.

BTC back over $1000 on Mt Gox. Apparently it doesn't need China.

awesome! hopefully we'll see MtGox add LTC soon as well, there's been a number of other sites reporting that as soon as MtGox adds it, they'll follow. I've been dabbling in the LTC world, more than the BTC, so I'd love to see it take off this year.

Big news for bitcoin,

Overstock.com is now accepting payments in bitcoin, making it the first major online retailer to embrace the increasingly popular but controversial digital currency.

Is local coins still the best place to sell bitcoins? I got taken by some Calgarian for $120 via eft after he claimed fraud on the efts. So looking for in person ways of selling

Never had a problem selling there. Find reputable people to sell with and you're good to go.

Anyone ever sell with BitCoinBrains on LocalCoins? They have a brick and mortar store, or so they say.

They're supposed to be out in Kengsinton, I haven't had a chance to go check them out yet. But they were featured in the Herald last month, and I think they have a pretty good reputation. I'm going to try and head there this weekend to have a look.

42coin is out.

Only 42 coins will be mined and right now they seem to be trading at about 1000 BTC each. Mostly that's due to the fact that any amount that is small enough to trade isn't supported by the Cryptsy exchange, so the supply is really small until peope build some up.

More of a curiousity than anything else really.

And Coinye is toast. Good way to get publicity for your coin, bad way to make a profit.

ha! Interesting concept, may be worth while to mine this for a little while, just to see what happens with it. I can't imagine this one sticking around for very long though.

What's a good site to find the best 'bang for your buck' crypto's for a small time miner to mine?

I've made a few K mining litecoins over the past handful of months, but the difficulty on LTC is really reducing the profitability... I am just doing this for fun, mainly - so what should I mine? I thought there was a link here to a site that monitored the profitability of coins vs. BTC, but I can't seem to find it.

I use Cryptsy.com for all my non-BTC transactions. It has markets for pretty much every coin out there.

For you, I would do Middlecoins. (http://middlecoin2.s3-website-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/)

It essentially mines the most profitable scrypt coins, based on the price at the time, and converts them to BTC for you automatically. The fee is fairly high, at 3-4%, but likely worth not having the hassle of trading the coins and the fees involved in moving them around.

Right now, I am pretty sure it mostly mines Doge, but it varies from day to day. If you are looking just to mine a single coin, I would suggest Doge might be more profitable than LTC, but it depends on the prices.

Interesting. Litecoin's become like 25% more difficult in the past week, I might try that middlecoins.

I finally got into currency mining, at exactly the wrong time it seems. Definitely going to try the middlecoin idea.
