One thing too, is the way the smell of smoke almost makes me physically ill now. I never experienced that the other times I have quit.

It'll be 16 years for me on February 14. I don't even know how many days that is anymore.

Congratulations to everyone who has quit and stuck with it. I have now smoked for 17 years and also wish to kick the habit. I can honestly say that I am now at a point where I hate it, obviously there are health concerns after smoking for so long but mostly, I hate the smell. I hate how much money I have spent on the habit. I'll read through the rest of the thread to get advice quitting but thanks to the OP for starting this thread. Again, congrats to everyone who are sticking with it!

I've been off smoking since January 5th of this year. Quit cold turkey.

Best decision ever!

One thing I will say though:

When I'm smoking, all I want to do is quit
When I'm not smoking, all I want to do is start.

It's such a vicious cycle!

Please quit everyone.

I still have a full pack wrapped up, and a half pack, both sitting by the front door. Left them there on purpose, although I'm not really sure why.
Not so strange, I carried a half pack around for months after I quit. The sure way to fail is to say "I quit after this pack". If you want to quit do it right now. Congrats. I'll be 10 years next month.

I just posted this on my Facebook page. Thought would be appropriate to share in this thread too.

--

I've been going to my Trym Gym classes (excercise & nutrition) for 5 weeks now. I quit smoking Jan 1st and I've really cut back my calories.

I've given up a lot of things I really like. Popcorn, nachos, bagels with cream cheese, other sweets. And my 2 Timmies double/doubles and become 1 single/single.

I've being doing extra activities too; cross country skiing, hiking, more walks with the dogs, etc.

So I was REALLY bummed on Monday when we had a weigh-in and I had lost less than 2 pounds.

Then I watched this video. Not so bummed anymore; just more determined to stick with it.

I'm closing in on a month now. Feeling great!

My house no longer reeks like the Ship & Anchor circa 10 years ago either.

I'm past cravings or sleepless nights as well.

Keep it going everyone, it is possible!

I'm at almost 6 weeks now. I went to my kids schools drama production tonight. I can't believe how many people milling about before and after the show reek like smoke.

been 6 months, 9 days. Awesome decision. Still crave (like, about now), but one of the best decisions I have made in my life. No more random coughing and feel better over-all. Sure, it's tough, but stick with it, keep your mind on accomplishing something and you can do it too.

Smoking: The Good News and the Bad News (Harriet Hall)
http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/...-the-bad-news/ Two recent review studies have confirmed what we already knew about the dangers of smoking, the leading preventable cause of death. The bad news: smoking reduces life expectancy by 10 years. The good news: stopping by age 40 can restore 9 of those years. Stopping at any age improves life expectancy, but the benefits decrease as age increases.

Woohooooo! I got to enjoy flavour country for 16 years of my life, and it will only cost me one! Knowing my luck, that will be the year they develop the worlds first anti-aging serum.

After going 14 days without weed, I smoked last night, and this morning threw out my the remainder of my pot, along with my bong, pipe, grinder, and my crazy pink and blue elephant. I know this isn't a pot smoking support thread, but just the same. Need to stop burning plants.
