There's room to fit both on the site, along with ancillary developments. No problem there.

Yeah, that would make the most sense. I made those graphics years ago, when this was all just a rumour, to show that two buildings could fit in that space.

Re-routing westbound Bow Trail to open up the riverfront would be the ideal solution. Also, I believe westbound Bow Trail currently runs right through the middle of the worst of the contaminated land, so I'd think they'll need to get under it to clean it up.

The Stampede area has also strongly committed to redeveloping the area surrounding, which again provides a mutual benefit to the city, the team, and the stampede.

I for one an always weary of building a "district" centered around a stadium. I mean, outside of maybe 100 days a year, who wants to hang around by an empty stadium..
The Stampede takes all the parking revenue for the area, as well as I believe the Flames have to pay rent for the land where the Dome is (I could be wrong about that). Either way, building on the Stampede grounds is not optimal for the Flames.

And I disagree with your last point. The idea behind this is that it's not just a hockey rink for 100 days/ year. It's hockey and then football and lacrosse and hitmen and concerts (both indoor and outdoor) and conventions and festivals, all in the same area. The presumption is there will almost always be something going on there.

It's nearing the point I'm almost expecting a comedy sketch-style unveiling of a new arena that's built and ready to roll. Just some massive tarp nobody ever noticed getting yanked off one day unveiling a giant complex.

Keep in mind the elevated west leg of the LRT, I think one of the buildings would cut right through that. I highly doubt there would be any relocation of that line given it was only constructed like 4 years ago

haha, I haven't been there in a long time. They had some great model kits. You just had to get down those stairs quickly to get past the horde of Magic players at the tables.

Ummm, you might want to consider the CP rail lines which are never moving, being covered or buried. Also you've obliterated the recently built elevated LRT line and station. Plus the massive amount of private property you're trying to acquire south of the tracks in Sunalta that would take years and hundreds of millions of dollars. Once you've got the new section of Bow trail in place you dead end at 14th street and kill any connection to 9th Ave and Downtown. Then you've wasted the most prime real estate along the river front.

If it was easy to sell the economic impact of a new Stadium, Ken King probably isn't talking about it in abstract for 6 years telling us how close it is and how much we'll like it.

Eventually a fish is just a fish.
I seem to be butting heads with you all over the place these days.

So your contention is that all Cities gains zero benefit from all stadiums and arenas everywhere and as such shouldnt give anyone a dime for anything? Is that the fish thats just a fish?

I guess we only really need to pave the roads that lead from the Mayor's house to City Hall then.

My point of view is that stadiums and arenas require some amount of public help be in the form of cash, land, tax breaks, etc, but that cities should stay far away from absurd arena management contracts and that they should look to recoup their investment over the term of the life of the stadium and under no circumstances should go 'Full Oiler' and just pay for the thing for the team.

At this point, all I really care about is Calgary's arena being better than Edmonton's. I don't really care about when its announced or where its located.

It's definitely sounds like it will be better from what K.K has said briefly so far. Two stadiums, smaller arena surrounded by mix entertainment.

At least Edmonton has theirs underway. And it is coming along nicely, it really is transforming the area, I drive past it often.

All we've had was some media pandering from KK and a 14-year old showcase his 3D Visual Studio skills.

Right. Edmonton.

Our arena will certainly not be in Edmonton.

Anyone wants to play over/under on whether the Flames will play in a new arena for the season opener in Oct 2022 (seven years from now)?

I'll say they won't
