The more I watch VGK and NYI the more I feel we need a new coach and a defensive structure and a few tweaks.

If for example we could move Bennett + futures for someone like Domi, we could slide Lindholm to Tkachuk's line and Backlund to the 3rd line.

Or we could see if that display was Sam Bennett's coming out party at centre and already have that player here.

Just look what Barry Trotz did with the Capitals and then the Islanders. A coach is the most pressing need for this team.

Yeah, what was I thinking wanting someone who has already shown they're a player, over perennial disappointment.

What do people think of the Murray rumor? Some people seem to think he's damaged goods. Tough decision there....

If the Islanders won the cup, would you offer sheet Barzal?

Could be a fresh start elsewhere candidate. And I think the Flames have been knocking on the Matt Murray door before. Cant recall the rumor from what the Flames send Pitts but Bjugstad coming over as well solves another issue for the Flames, another RHS.

The Golden Knights and Islanders are polar opposite teams.
Vegas is a possession and scoring chance powerhouse while the Islanders are the total opposite and seem to literally only care about defense.
The only similarity is that Vegas is just as good defensively as New York, but are 10x better offensively.

Only way I would offer sheet Barzal is if i personally wanted to sleep with the fish. But Lou would scare me and my possibly longevity as a GM.

This is why you would probably be a terrible NHL GM.

I think Backes is a capable number 2 center. Plays a very good 200 foot game. I really don’t think that is the weakest link in this team.
I think Monahan is a number one center in this league. I do not think he is a top 10 center in this league. With the right parts in the right places, we are closer to our goal

Rather than gambling on Murray, I'd gamble on Fleury. He's shown he can play, isn't terribly old, and could be the starter for three or four seasons here. Murray's price will go up in the next few weeks and some team will trade at least a 1st to roll the dice and discover which Murray they'll get. The GM that gets him will overpay and be exposed as a cockmeasurer, no doubt.

You're surely not talking about David Backes...
Right?

No more half measures for a goalie. Either pay for Lehner/Markstrom, or stick with what you’ve got and wait.
Sick of giving up picks and assets for a goalie that stays with us for one/two years or is just not worth it.

I agree with Fleury on this one. I would take a runner on fleury... if I was close to being a cup contender. Unfortunately, I don’t think we are that close.
On the other hand, I would want to know what Murray would want or be looking for on his next contract. If it wasn’t friendly to the team, I am probably saying no to either of them.

A Murray and Gillies/Zagidulin duo would likely cost the as much a Talbot and Rittich tandem.

What is Matt Murray’s worth, and what could the Calgary Flames have to offer?
1. Sam Bennett
2. Dillon Dube
3. Oliver Kylington
4. Emilio Pettersen

Either way, the Flames need a new goaltending coach. I think we can all agree on that.
