+4 next week.

Always funny when you haven't acclimatized to a jump in temperature (to recognize that it's still objectively chilly), you just know that it feels significantly warmer than what it was, so 0 feels more like 10-15 when you're coming out of that deep freeze for the first couple of days.

Soupy roads? I'll go swim in a tub of chicken noodle as long as it's not -35 again.

The Snow forecast is all over the place. Let’s hope it dwindles up to nothing. -20 is still miserable and with snow it’s even worse.

Knowing that nothing happens in moderation in this city we'll regret asking for this.

We're going from cars skidding on ice sheets to cars having no traction and having to park in snow banks.

I'd take 3 more days of -30 and minimal snow over this dump we're supposedly getting and -20

No, we need snow and moisture. Bring it. The XC skiing is just barely passable at Confed right now!

Who tortures themselves voluntarily with XC skiing?

It beats the hell outa going to the gym, you get some sunshine in the winter, fresh air...and it's close to my house. Put some music on, and get some exercise.

Getting out in the mountains is an awesome winter day with the wife. How's that torture? Or should I hide inside all winter?

It’s colder in Texas this morning than in Calgary. Please take y’all’s cold air back.

The other thing is that a gentle downhill becomes exhilarating when wearing soft boots and toothpicks without metal edges. 40 kph on XC is more fun than 80 kph downhill. And you can actually do it without worrying about some gorbie getting in your way.

Better yet, a long rolling descent in quality trackset. Like Kovach trail down to Kanaskis Village. Chefs Kiss! I'm not even sure what to compare that experience to...mountain biking is probably the closest (which I don't really do) - but it would be a perfectly flowing trail where barely ever have to touch the brakes or pedal - you're totally engaged/immersed while also being totally 'along for the ride'.

Now I'm stoked for next weekend when we get moderate temps to take advantage of the incoming snow!

Exhilarating..terrifying....you know, same thing! The long downhill from the back of Moose Loop at Bragg Creek is a good one. The scariest is the far end of Rundle Trail at the Canmore Nordic Centre where it's banked sharp corners on a decent. Get it right and it's zip-a-dee-doo-da...go a hair to fast and I'd rather be straight lining Mens Downhill at Louise.

You just want to send the XC skiers out and then eliminate all of the trail markers or fence them out or something.

You don’t even have the leave the city to enjoy a X-country ski. I can walk 5 min from my front door, throw my skis on, and start skiing in the sun and fresh air. Better than sitting inside riding a stationary bike, and cheaper than getting a gym membership.

Fresh snow, blue skies, and -5 to -10 temp = chef’s kiss.

I think some people just resign themselves to watching screens all winter instead of finding ways to make use of it.

Well its not really fun to be outside in -30 or when its -30 and snowing heavily.

Its much more enjoyable when you can feel your extremities and enjoy the snow and now have to drive on crappy roads since our city is one of the worst at getting things cleared.

Some of the forecasts seems to call for 1-3 cm.
