Would it be shocking to see the Broncos take a flyer on Mike Vanderjagt?

Colbert was signed to compete for the 3rd/4th spot. You forgot about Brandon Stokely who had a nice year despite being banged up most of it.
They are sitting pretty at TE with Tony Scheffler, who is without a doubt a weapon and Daniel Graham.
The running game is never a problem which only helps the passing game and the Broncos once again have several backs that can get the job done on any given gameday.
The biggest question on offense is the protection. Some young guy will have to step up to replace Lepsis...other than that, Nalen is back after missing almost the entire season, Casey Wiegman will probably take Ben Hamilton's spot at C(out all of last year) allowing Hamilton to move back to guard.
Kicking game hasn't been addressed yet.
You say defense will continue to be a problem yet you give absolutely zero support to that claim. Doesn't hold much water. In fact, the defense was way better the last 3rd of the season and the plan to move DJ Williams back outside and with the return of Ekuban (out all year) Moss (out almost all year) and the continued development of Elvis Dumervil, there is reason to think the front 7 will be improved.
In the secondary they have added 2 veteran safeties who improve the starters and depth.
Jim Bates' departure will trump all of that however and the Broncos return to a blitz heavy, aggressive defense will pay big dividends. Scheme change will be gigantic.
I'll take Shanahan's talent evaluation over anyone the Raiders have been using the last 15 years. Your team hasn't exactly lit up the draft.

Wow your pretty high on a team that's going to win 7 games at best. At least I'm realistic.

Nice reply, no substance again.
We'll revisit this in the fall.

This doesn't really concern me. I think he'll be signed by camp. He deserves to take the springtime off, as long as he can work off that weight they made him gain last season.

Substance? They weren't good last year and are worse on paper this year. The biggest question to me is who will be the first assistant coach fired when the team goes south. The offense has been average since Kubiac left and defensive coordinators are always on shakier ground than an Al Davis head coach. Cutler can look almost like Elway in one game and the next a poor man's Jake the Fake. Travis Henry is second hand smoke away from being suspended. Their most consistent player (Elam) left town. I really don't see where you could be optimistic?
Face it the Teflon Coach has run his course in Denver. The longer he runs the show, the worse the team will plunge. At least we know that Davis will be out of the picture in the near future.

How can they look worse on paper? Aside from the loss of Elam, where are they worse?

I'll leave you this little tidbit from espn.com:
"Broncos fans won't want to hear this, but they are closer to losing their grip on second place in the AFC West to Oakland than they are to dethroning the San Diego Chargers for the top dog in this division"
Couldn't agree more myself.

I still think the Broncos will be head and shoulders better than the Raiders...that whole thing about being conditioned to lose in Oakland wont ever change until Davis is gone. Nevermind they simply dont have enough on offense, Russell or not, to be competitive in that division. Losing cultures aint gonna change because you have a big QB who can run. 72nd in the NFL for a rating.....that horrific. Behind a guy like Troy Brown on Baltimore as a matter of fact.

^ I agree. It is pretty hard to determine at this point how successfull Russell will or will not be. I'm sure nobody predicted how great a career Brett Farve would have after his rookie season with the Falcons.

I read that days ago...but again...there's nothing there but a statement. They didn't support it at all. I'll agree that they haven't made huge strides to get better but to say they have regressed is laughable.
And it just kills me that people think the Raiders, with Jamarcus Russel, will do anything this year.

Parcells is going to negotiate the best deal before the draft and draft that player... or so the rumor said. I think it was CNNSI, ESPN or CBSSports.

I woudn't fire Herm. He inherited an aging team. Not his fault that Roaf and Shields retired and Carl had no suitable replacements. Or that King Carl signed Laurence Tynes to an extension and then traded him to the Giants then blew a draft pick to replace him with a guy that they cut after one game. Or that King Carl shipped off Dante Hall (allthough he isn't his former self) and replaced him with nothing. I could go on and on. Even with the crappy O-line the Chiefs were still 4-4 or 4-5 when LJ went down for the season. I don't think Herm is the problem. To get to the top you need to start at the bottom. As a Chiefs fan I'm tired of just contending for a playoff spot. I want the Chiefs to be a legitimate contender. If we have to suffer through a few seasons with some growing pains. I'm more than prepared.

Bryant Gumbel has resigned from the NFL Network. Time for a new PBP guy.
