I'm glad we didn't move Coronato for 10 OA, need some of the prospects we already have to continue to progress, can't all be magic beans.

Neither an overwhelming or underwhelming return. Fairly whelmed.

Curious to know what other players/prospects were offered up. Maybe there were forwards offered but Conroy opted for the defenseman based on what we already have in our system.

Going to be more fun rooting for the Devils now with my son anytime the Flames are not involved.
Getting a first is a win.
Watching Bahl the last couple of years, a little underwhelming on the physicality but he's young enough that he still has time to develop into a guy who can use his size more than he does now.
The protection on the pick is very unlikely to come into play. NJ should be a solid playoff team with Markstrom in net.

I’m still okay with the return, though not super high on Bahl but he fits as a serviceable young d-man to retool with.
I’m told the Flames aren’t done, expect Craig to be busy leading up to the draft though I’ve got no names yet, the feeling is Breadman could be next.
|
If that's true, then I am much happier to keep Coronato than to acquire this year's NJD pick and get their pick next year instead.

Totally agree... our silver linings : new arena, Oilers BS over in 2 weeks one way or another finally, should get a good core piece in the draft this year,
And most importantly Conroy's been doing good IMO, as good as he can play a ####ty hand.
It's been said but people are disappointed here because Markstrom return expectations were set at an unrealistic level but he's been doing as well as he possibly could, amassing tons of picks and moving out older players on the decline.
Just need our scouting staff to actually start hitting some doubles and triples and minimize the # of Klimchuks and Poiriers we draft with these late 1sts.

Great that this is done. I'll never complain about the team acquiring a big Damn. Hope he develops well here.
Most wanted a rebuild. Now that it's happening it's odd but not surprising to see people saying "yeah but not like that"
I'm happy with the moves so far and glad Conroy isn't coming out and saying the goal is to be terrible and sell everyone. That would be one of the dumbest GM moves of all time so I'm not sure why some are demanding it?

LOL. This from the guy who one year ago thought the Flames should get a first round pick for each of Tanev, Hanifin, Zadorov, Lindholm, Toffoli, and Backlund. As if there were 6 teams willing to give up there first round picks and the only players they would have been interested in doing so played for the Flames.
What were the other offers on Markstrom? What were the extenuating circumstances?
The Flames don’t get to unilaterally make up the value of their players.
The Flames did well here and none of us, or 99.8% truly know what the Flames could have got now or prior to.
…stop pretending.

Don't care about the return.
The player traded didn't want to be here.

Young dmen with his size often take a bit longer too. Last year he was fine.
Miromanov, Pachal, Bahl...we are drafting Silayev if he slips to 9

LOL. This is not a playoff competitive team. That's just Conroy building hope for the future.
Look at the D. Look at the net. That's bottom 5 calibre.

For those who are saying that this still isnt a complete tear down and rebuild just remember, now its our job to make sure the seats are at least 90% full for the next 6 years or so

*edit, nevermind, did retain and still only got the later future 1st*

The Flames have a TON of cap space to utilize ($23M with 19 players signed), so they still have many arrows in their quiver.
Also, they still have Mangiapane, Kuzmenko and Sharangovich are all pending UFAs, so there is still plenty of potential to move more assets for picks at the deadline.
And they already have 6 1sts over the next 3 years. IMO, Conroy is doing a hell of a job.

At first glance kinda underwhelming but when you frame what the value of this asset was a year ago, its hard to be too upset.

I believe in the Jays.

Zadorov actually seems like a pretty good comp for Bahl. Big physical optimally #5 defenseman who can sub into your #4 spot in a pinch.
I don't love the idea that he's in our top 4 (and right now he is) except from a "team tank" perspective. If him and Miromanov were our 5-6 I'd likely be really happy with the state of our D (in that we'd have two guys on the bottom pair who could reasonably also play on special teams).
