How many d men do Calgary now have for next year? Seems like a lot . Not to mention prospects that could be fighting for a spot

According to Twitter Calgary either got fleeced or this was an overpay by NJD.

Even crazier, at this time last year there were plenty of posts showing his cap hit if he got bought out over the next 4 seasons and how it would be a net-gain for the Flames. Compared to that scenario, the team not only saved cap hit money and term, but also acquired a young D with some potential and a 1st rounder. The player is now 1 year older, continiung his usual trend of good/bad season (this upcoming season being a bad one) and was ready to move on with NJD in mind.
Relative to this point last season, I fail to see how this trade is anything but a win.

According to capfriendly it's lottery protected not top ten. Basically if Florida misses the playoffs their pick doesn't transfer to Calgary - and Montreal then gets our pick unless its 1st overall.

We're all Panthers fans for well beyond this finals. I'm feeling pretty nervous the way they are collapsing in the finals, they're going to bear some major psychological scars next year after this.

If Florida's 2025 1st isn't a lottery pick, Calgary gets Florida's 2025 1st round pick.
If that happens:
- If Calgary's 2025 pick isn't top 10, Montreal gets the better of Calgary & Florida's 2025 1st round picks.
- If Calgary's 2025 pick is top 10, Montreal gets Florida's 2025 1st round pick.
If Florida's 2025 1st is a lottery pick, Calgary gets Florida's 2026 1st instead.
If that happens:
- If Calgary's 2025 pick is not top 10, Montreal gets Calgary's 2025 1st round pick.
- If Calgary's 2025 pick is 2nd-10th, Montreal gets Calgary's 2025 1st round pick.
- If Calgary's 2025 pick is 1st overall, Montreal gets Calgary's 2025 3rd and the better of the the 2026 1st between Calgary & Florida

Hopefully Bahl can take the same steps Zadorov took here.

Haven't read through the thread yet, but would just like to say:
Kudos to Markstrom for being a pro and for rebounding with a great season, in the face of a terrible and challenging year for the franchise, to allow Conroy to generate a return of a 1st and a player, for a 24 year old goalie, who some thought was unmovable.
This is a solid return for him - thank you Jacob, and all the best in NJ. Hope you win a cup!

That's exactly what I said. If Florida misses the playoffs and their pick is a lotto pick, Montreal gets our pick instead. Unless it's first overall

Well there it is folks!
I too am disappointed it wasn’t the 10th pick.
Craig pushed hard to try and find a way to get the 10th included but apparently the Devils wanted Coronato included.
I’m still okay with the return, though not super high on Bahl but he fits as a serviceable young d-man to retool with.
I’m told the Flames aren’t done, expect Craig to be busy leading up to the draft though I’ve got no names yet, the feeling is Breadman could be next.

Still leading 3-2.... Calling it Collapsing when its a Series of Bo7. In the elimination games they've never had the lead.

Hope the best for Markstrom but selfishly hope he's not the answer so the pick is strong. With Flames luck it will be 32nd overall though...
|
I would be perfectly fine with that, actually.
Ex Flames playing well, across the league, aids Conroy as we move forward.

I have seen it written as top ten post lottery but holy crap if that pick isn't top ten protected then the Flames could be giving up a top 5 pick .

Underwhelming return, especially for multiple years of salary retention.
In the spirit of being positive, Bahl has been improving every year. Maybe he turns into the next Oleksiak and makes this a good deal for both sides.

there's several things to dislike about Treliving, but nothing beats that stupid trade with its 257 conditions. Thanks a lot for that, man ...
