You always have to overpay for Hyman

Danault would be interesting and 5 year term might be too little if I was in his position. In a situation like Seattle where the team is unproven and success might be years away it could be a risky move to sign there and be buried on a weak roster. It could be a great way to kill your career and your late stage contracts unless he wants to retire at 34 or so.

Curious how the rest of the roster shapes-up. D looks fairly strong IMO. Some good forwards that will probably see their ice-time elevated - will their be a Karlsson this time around?
Definitely some head-scratchers being picked. At any rate, they have a tonne of cap room, and two top-end drafts coming up starting next season.

Like who is Bayreuther, Twarynski and True?
So many weird picks, why not Stenlund, anyone else from Philly or Donato?
I can almost understand some of the other head scratchers, almost. But what the hell is with these picks?

Bayreuther and True are tweeners with some sneaky good relative metrics in limited NHL ice time. They've tended to outperform their teammates but have never been rewarded by moving up the roster. Francis is probably betting that they would show more if given a real opportunity.
Twarynski, according to Hockey-Reference.com, is a good Calgary kid with a weird little blob of fuzz on his chin. Other than that, I got nothin'.
Some of the expansion picks were real head-scratchers, I'll agree. Unlike some of our rasher posters, I shall reserve judgement whether they were actually stupid. I have a feeling Francis is up to something Moneyball-ish, but the numbers available to the public, even the ‘advanced’ ones, aren't enough to tell me what that is.
