If that was the case, why didn't he mention it in his lame explanation?
It was a classless thing to do. He acts like he didn't know it was the kids first game. You don't think the coaching staff or other players would have mentioned this fact?
He knew what he was doing and its a bad look.

Hard to say, my guess is he just doesn't overanalyze every little thing like us fans do so didn't think he needed to explain it
With the level of outrage you'd think he threw it into the stands or something

In the heat of the battle B. Tkachuck wanted the puck (a guy that has probably been a pain in the ass all night) and he didn't want to just give it to him. I highly doubt he is even thinking about the other team and why they want it. Players aren't force fed these storylines by the media all game.
He had the puck, the biggest rat on the other team wanted it...played a little keep away and then threw it down. People are so soft these days...to think of the things that happened back in the day you guys would be in the fetal position crying.
And M. Tkachuck is supposed to pick it up and hand it to them? In a gift box? He angled it off the boards towards there end FFS.
Social media will be the end of days

It was Wheeler, their captain, too.
Got a misconduct but not a fine I believe.

I guess the players don't always realize how important hockey is. Someone better remind him this isn't a game, this is serious ####

Mike Smith probably wanted the game puck since he acts like every win is game 7 of the stanley cup finals

We have all done something like this one time or another. Lots of fans post classless stuff all the time, it just never gets micro managed to the same degree as the players..

Not a fan of that phrase personally but it's certainly one of those things that people jump all over so they can rage about it on social media and pat themselves on the back for how classy they're being by pretending to be upset about it
Quick glance over at r/hockey confirms it too. Anyone that goes against the narrative of 'It was a massive pos move' gets downvoted to oblivion. No discussion is welcome. Only outrage.

If this happened 20+ years ago it wouldn't have even been a blip.
"so did the guy get the puck?"
"yeah 10 seconds after he initially wanted it"
Oh, okay

What if the shoe was on the other foot, and a rookie Flames goalie got his first ever win and Kassian grabbed the puck and started to skate away with it?

and then threw it on the ice and the kid got the puck 10 seconds later...I mean Kassian has kicked guys in the chest it wouldn't even be in the top 10 of things to be outraged at Kassian about
might call him a ###### and be done with it...certainly wouldn't go running to reddit. Everything the Flames do is front page news though with all the Oiler fanboys coming out of the woodwork. Tkachuk not giving up his stick to the dman when the puck was on the wall about to break out was the last firestorm.

Well that doesn't seem surprising as I wouldn't expect the Swedish media to cover a random Calgary/Ottawa game to begin with.
How did the Swedish media cover it when Lias Andersson threw his silver medal into the crowd?
I remember it was similarly a pretty big deal here and obviously it was an international event.

We live in 2021 dude. Swedish media covers every NHL match these days. All games are on tv and live blogs.
And thanks for proving my point, the andersson incident was also seen as who cares over here while Canadians got riled up.
Then you had don cherry on national television for 40 years making fun of swedish players that was no problem. See the double standard?

LOL.
"Dude", we like Swedish players here. We have a lot of them on the team.
It might be time to move on from the Swedish martyr thing you've clung to for years now.
