The timeout was created for fan frustration.
"He never takes his timeout, what an idiot!!!"

1) Players and coaches don't care as much about rivalries as fans do. Big surprise, Gulutzen doesn't "hate" any team.
2) Curtis Lazar is not great. One specific play. there was a turnover in the ducks zone, he had the puck in the high slot, defenseman in front of him and a flame wide open in front of Gibson. Best play is to get the puck to the net and follow it up, open flames guy might have one or two chances before he is checked.
What does Lazar do? Shoots high and wide. Pretty much the worst play you can make in that situation. I don't get it.

Weird, I'm in the states too and watched on Center Ice. I got the entire postgame, including After Hours. Doesn't always happen but does quite often. You would think it would be consistent around the country.

Darryl Sutter, Bob Hartley, Backlund, Regehr and countless other suggest otherwise. In fact some of my favorite coaches and players are the non-robots that actually get visibly excited/angry at certain teams.
Hell, even last night you had Flames players suggesting that they hate Anaheim and don't want to lose specifically to them.

Yes. But if the Vancouver Canucks offered Hartley a job tomorrow, he'd take it.

Ferland is tied for 16th in goals. What a revelation he has been on that top line.

Not quite sure how my post came off, I was meaning to just slightly counter your claim that players and coaches don't care about rivalries like fans do with a few examples of that not being the case.
I agree Vancouver wouldn't offer Bob Hartely a job right now whatever point that proves.

I guess what I meant is, yes, players and coaches get up for "rivalry games" but at the end of the day the ice is their job and off ice they are normal people. Not sure why people are shocked that Gulutzen is shaking hands with a guy he used to coach and is friends with. He doesn't have to "hate" bieksa in real life just because he might want to kick his ass on the ice.

Some complain that the Dome is dead most of the time.
Some complain that GFG is dull and why can't the crowd get a good soccer cheer going?
And now some complain that the crowd is actually into it with the wave?
I would rather see a boisterous Dome with those in attendance involved in any way they see fit.

Really glad the Flames got the win last night. They played a hell of a first which is how one would hope they would respond to the coach flipping out.
I was very happy they responded physically to the Ducks. Bennett is awesome just loving his game over the past month and throwing down with Manson isn’t easy and he got the knock down.
I was happy to see Gulutzan fires up on the bench after that. I think I saw an emotion from this Flames team that has been lacking. The Ducks outplayed them for most of the last 2 periods and if the Flames lost it would have been a crushing defeat. The narrative would be playing right into the Ducks hand the Flames got knocked off their game. Instead the Flames rallied and got the win in regulation and this emotional win could set the tone for the rest of the year and hopefully get the Flames back in the playoffs.
A regulation win against the Wild on Tuesday would be huge

When I subscribed to Center Ice through DirectTV I always received after hours. Now that I subscribe online I rarely, if ever, get it. Feed ends almost instantly after game.

not sure who in their right minds is doing the wave in a one goal game or game that is tied? I have better things to do...like actually watching the game or screaming at the refs
|
IIRC the wave originally was supposed to throw off an opposing player (during a free throw or field goal). Now it's more like a fan decides to say "look ATB me start a wave".

Not necessarily even old friends, just guys who worked together being polite.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen an NHL coach use a timeout to try and change momentum (and then it never works). They constantly use them to get players a break on an icing or draw up an ENG plan.

I suspect Hartley didn't like Torts (versus Vancouver).

A very entertaining game that had the look of another Gulutzan era loss. Was pretty dominant during the majority of the game, but sagged after the shorty. That was the opportunity to take the game and salt it away, but the PP worked against the team and gave the Ducks new life. It was then cover the eyes and hope. The Ducks uncharacteristically sagged in the final minute, and the top line made them pay with a brilliant goal. Kudos to the boys for sticking with it and capitalizing on a mistake.

The Flames were able to win because they have a very talented team. If this team had a good coaching staff we wouldn't be concerned about scraping into the playoffs in a wild card spot, we'd be having all the other Pacific teams chasing us the way Vegas is. Never discount the efficacy of quality coaching. No magic required. Just good systems, better preparation, and ultimate motivation. No stick tossing into the private boxes either.

I've been pleasantly surprised by Janko's willingness to muck it up in scrums. This is one area where AHL time really benefitted him as there's a scrum after almost every whistle.
If you watch the Bennett and Hathaway scraps last night, Janko comes flying towards the pile shaking his gloves. This wasn't the only time he was keen to be in the midst of it last night.
To me it speaks to his growing confidence and comfort in the league.

well according to the radio Janko also got tangled up after one scrum with Nick Ritchie. I don't think that would be the guy for him to try for his first NHL tilt.

My subscription is TV...so maybe that is the difference. That's sucky though.

I'm happy that the Flames won last night as I was at the game. But I just don't know what happened to the team last night after the first period. They were dominating and playing great in the first and I think they had 15 or 17 shots or something. They came out pretty flat in the second and either tried to maintain their lead by not being aggressive or Anaheim figured out how to beat the Flames system. The Flames, and pretty much any team, can't expect to win a game by playing one period.
