My favourite has got to be Chia announcing the Hall for Larsson trade and basically admitting in the press conference that it was a bad trade.

The best part for me was that i got the tweet, and my first reaction was to google who the heck larsson was. Oh and that a guy i had to google was the only piece coming back for , arguably,a top5 LW in the league

The German word for Treasure is Shatz. Which seams suiting.

Griffin Reinhart piece from the Edmonton Journal...

4. We can be glad that the Oilers only gave up a mid-first round and high second round pick for Reinhart and did not trade the third overall pick in the 2014 draft for him, as was widely rumoured to be under consideration at that time. Several team insiders were floating that trial balloon in the spring of 2014. But that’s the draft pick that netted the Oilers Leon Draisaitl. This story would be that much more bitter if that was the deal that had brought Reinhart here. So thank goodness for small favours, and pass me that big stick so I can beat my head with it. The mistakes of the Oilers seem unending.
This would've been epic!

It would have been an epic failure on the part of the oilers, but the islanders would probably have drafted Bennett and we'd be stuck with Draisaitl. I'm happy with how it played out.

I am too, but I think we'd still be pleased with Draisaitl. He wouldn't have the Oiler stink on him, and he probably wouldn't have made the NHL right out of the draft. If he did, it wouldn't have been for such a joke of an organisation.

I remember at the time saying that Draisatl was not as good a fit with the Flames because he was more of a similar type of player as Sean Monahan. Having two below-average / average skaters in the middle on the top two lines would not be ideal.

Matthew Barzal and Anthony Beavillier (who they drafted by packaging the 33rd from Edmonton with their own pick to get Tampa's 28th OA) are both still in islanders camp.

Reinhart is no longer in Edmonton's camp. Hilarious

every so often I remember the outrageous stuff my oiler loving friends say; here is the latest spin:

"Yak for Russell, Versteeg and a 2nd rounder; who wouldn't do that trade?"

I pointed out that Russell and Versteeg were available for free, and that the 2nd is an assumption, however no less an overestimation than the sweatpants and dress shoes wearing brigade regularly pass off as fact. In other words, if the oilers had to dump salary, Russell and Versteeg are already there. They took on an echl player to balance St. Louis' NHL contracts. And they have no record of drafting and developing from the first round, never mind the 2nd or 3rd.

My point to the "women with bruised legs" crew was if they had just waived Yak, they would have Versteeg, Russell, and one less NHL contract that they could have used to pick up anyone, and not on an echl player that they now have to bury and pay. Surely there would be a player of interest on the Waiver Wire that would have been better than a 3rd and an ECHL player?

Cue "NoWin for Nolan".

Every once in a while, my conversations with my Oiler fan friend provide wonderful comedy.

Him: We signed your old defenseman today

*blah blah blah, accurate assessments of Russell's game from both of us*

Me: You're omitting the move that led to Russell's signing: the trade of Yakupov for some styrofoam packing peanuts.

Him: Haha, yeah. Oh well.

Me: Yup, "Oh well, we ruined this 1st overall pick, we'll just get another one next year." Classic Oilers

Him: Well, he won't do well under Hitch in StL.

Me: Maybe, but it's just as likely that he pulls a Dubnyk.

Him: Hitch hates one way guys. That may be the only place worse than Edmonton for him.

Me: No place is worse than Edmonton. It's a scientific fact.

Him: Funny.

Me: It's funny cuz it's true.

Him: Once again, you should probably worry about signing your own players.

Me: Ah deflection, the classic Oiler fan move, and a sign that the conversation is not going well for them.

Him: ....*golden silence*....

This is honestly how it goes most of the time. At a certain point he just gives up. It's kinda sad really.

The Oilers have been translating their pretentiousness and entitlement into architecture and interior design for a decade.
They must have learned from the best. Not long after Wrigley Field opened up in 1914, the Cubs erected several flag poles around the stadium in anticipation of future World Championship pennants. The poles went unused and were ultimately removed after they rusted.

I turned on the Oilers-Nucks game and saw the Oilers #4 playing in his own zone and was genuinely confused for a moment until I remembered that's it's now Russell instead of Hall.

And the new #4 also had a brutal turnover. Some things never change.

It would have been so amazing if they traded the Drasaitl pick for Reinhart.
