Well, he's added ONE interesting perspective, over and over. But he does get a pretty rough ride most of the time, I can see why it would drive him crazy.

What do you mean "attacked for defending one of our players"? WHat difference does it make if he's "defending a Calgary Flame or not. He's being challenged for some very questionable claims. It happens.
That right there is why I hate HFBoards, "he's defending one of our players and other Flames fans are attacking him" is such an HFboards mentality, because there's subforums forums for every team there, so you get this wolfpack mentality.
Where instead of just discussing hockey topics, everything gets turned into team's fans coming together and defending their team together against the other fans, instead of adults discussing hockey topics.

Then ignore him if it bothers you so much. What's worse, one post that people don't like, or one post coupled with 6 or 7 others coming out of the woodwork to harp on it?

The thing is, you guys aren't defending your claims. You are acting like you are a superior poster with higher intelligence when you've done nothing of the like. And then I get called out for not defending my opinions?
I think Sam Gagner sucks. I'm sorry that it upsets you or blows your mind that one kind like Sven Baertschi while thinking Sam Gagner is useless.
Deal with it, or ignore me. I didn't post in this thread to get into another Baertschi argument.
It appears, however, that others did.

"He sucks" and "He's like the worst in the league" aren't defence claims that will ward off the opposition. You can certainly expect to be continually challenged when your argument boils down to basically "I just know".

What do you want me to say?
I've told you. He's lazy, he's terrible defensively. He's weak on the boards. He has a terrible shot.
He's not coveted around the league. Despite being the 2nd highest scoring player of his draft year, Oilers fans cannot stand him. In one game, he scored 17% of his total points for the season. Despite having played 7 seasons in the NHL, he has not progressed or developed at all, and was actually a better player when he was 18 years old.
So yeah, why don't you follow your own advice and tell me, in a thread called 'Who do we hope ends up GM?", why Sam Gagner is such a magnificent hockey player?
How odd that I didn't write an essay on Sam Gagner to defend one simple statement, My sincerest apologies.
But yeah, Baertschi sucks. Don't know what that has to do with this thread, but okay.

I think it's been determined that it won't be Ashasx, and probably not anyone else who posts here or at HFBoards.

I post on HF from time to time as well. I always laugh at these trade suggestion threads. One time I think a Leaf fan proposed Gardiner for Monahan+

Find it funny how Futa is a top GM candidate. I remember back in his days with Owen Sound may of their fans wanted him out of there because he was a wild man with trades going crazy dealing boatloads of picks/prospects to attempt to win a championship that never happened. He did have a knack for landing players who typically wouldn't go to an Owen Sound (basically a tiny OHL market) like Bobby Ryan and Trevor Lewis (LA Kings).
It was a while back and he did turn a perennial weak sister into a contender so I don't think he did a bad job, just could never get the team over the hump.

People should know better than to criticize the oilers young players... they got picked high in the draft so by extension they are awesome nhlers. Most people don't form opinions of hockey players based on watching lots of games, they do it based on the few snippets that stick in their memories based on casual viewing and on sportscentre, so draft position is massive and as long as they pick up an occasional highlight goal their incredible value stays in tact.
I will take issue with one thing Ashasx said, that Gagner is the worst defensive player in the league. Doing Justin Schultz a major disservice there.
Pretty surprisingly quiet on the gm front, figured between us and buffalo would be quite a few rumors floating around.

i would have thought the GM search would have been quick if Burke wanted to have someone in place before the olympic rush, so he wasn't split amongst 2 important priorities (flames and teamUSA). If he doesn't find anyone before the olympic rush, i don't think he'll hire anyone till the offseason.

Disclaimer:
I'm not nearly as knowledgeable about the assistant GM's and minor league GM's out there.
My suggestion, albeit a bit of a wild card:
Larry Robinson.
He seems liked by media, fans, and players alike. He brought the winning culture to New Jersey, and as a pillar of their defense won a Stanley Cup, in addition to the 5 previous he won with Montreal, and the almost win with L.A.
Then as he moved to the coaching realm, he out-Lowed himself, and won one as a coach. He's also been a scout, and had his name on the Cup for those reasons too.
Currently he's an Assistant with San Jose. If the GM role isn't fitting, then I'd gladly bring his winning culture in to Coach, as an upgrade to Hartley.

Robinson struggles with stress which is why he's gone back to being an assistant

I hope Burke takes the reign for the balance of the season.
Dealing away mature players for youth is something I would feel more comfortable with him doing. He should clean house on the scouting side too. Why welcome a new GM by giving them a bunch of guys to fire?
If the team is going to be based on Burke's plan anyway, then he can get a jump start for the new guy.
If I had my pick of any GM in the league, he would be top 5. The other four are all trying to win cups this year so are not going anywhere.

FWIW, Roger Millions was on Team 1040 afternoon show and said that both Buffalo and Calgary are being told to talk to teams after the season about their respective vacancies. It looks like there will be no replacement until after the season or draft is complete if the target is currently working for a rival team, and Millions specifically mentioned Jim Benning's name.
