Sven is a better 2 way player then who now? We hope Sven will be a better 2 way player than Gagner, and he may very well be, but in his short NHL career, Sven has yet to prove he's even an NHL caliber player, let alone a better 2 way one than Gagner.

He is a much better defensive player than Gagner.

This shouldn't even be up for discussion, but here we are.

How so? He's not better at anything than Gagner at the NHL level, but in fairness he hasn't had enough of a chance to prove it either.

Gagner is my pick for worst defensive player in the NHL. Baertschi is better than Gagner at a lot of things.

The Bruins were in the playoffs every year for a massive stretch, but it was 16/21 teams making it for most of that time.

So are we calling Sven a bust now? I think it's fairly close, but not close enough to make that call.

He honestly needs ten more pounds of muscle weight to round himself out.
The rest is confidence. And that is not so easy to attain in a Bob Hartley system, especially from a young player.

I'm sold on the fact that Sven needed the AHL to develop further and is the selling point to Feaster and Weisbrods removal as they refused to send him down.

I thoroughly believe Sven has all components to his game to be a good top six NHL'er but needs some seasoning in the A to get them straight. Look for his impact this following season. Mark these words. Whether he is in CGY or not. Next year is when he arises.

No, my argument is one player has been able to play over 400 NHL games and the other 50. There is nothing CURRENTLY that Sven has shown he can do better than Gagner, and that includes playing with and without the puck, and it includes playing in the offensive and defensive zone. Gagner doesn't contribute enough offensively to warrant being in the NHL if he's as bad as you state defensively. Sven on the other hand is so bad defensively at this point that when he's asked to play a more defensive game he has at the complete expense of him putting up any points, and still his defensive game isn't good enough to warrant staying in the NHL.

One player is NHL caliber right now, the other is not. This argument is stupid, Sven does nothing hockey related better than Gagner at this point in time. It's the reason one has played over 400 games at age 24 and why the other would have to play every game from now until they were 24 to reach 200 games at that point in their life.

If Gagner is such a magnificent player, it sure is surprising that Edmonton flat out sucks in every single aspect of hockey right now.

Watch Edmonton. Not only is Gagner awful defensively, he's lazy. If Baertschi was put in the same positions as Gagner, their offensive numbers would not be very dissimilar.

I didn't bring up Baertschi in the first place, so if you could please ignore me if all you think I post is nonsense, I wouldn't have to read your garbage replies that have no bearing on my original post.

Gagner reminds me of Stillman when he was with the Flames. I wouldn't be surprised if he was traded to a good team and then loses the lazy attitude.

I post on HF too, not too often though. I think it's a sad day when a poster is constantly attacked for fervently defending one of our players. Especially when he's saying a lot of things that are correct.

The guy has added a more interesting perspective to this community than a lot of others who attack him.
