This is the way I viewed it as well. Maybe people expected Superman to just start out as a righteous always doing the right thing type of guy, but is that realisitc? Especially growing up on Earth? I think him killing Zod (and maybe the destruction of Metropolis) was important to show Clark who/what he had to be in order to inspire the Earth the way he is meant to.
This what (at least if Snyder has some intelligence) I think will be the main focus of BvS. Batman is unimpressed by Supermans disregard for destruction and death and is going to show Superman the type sacrifice that is necessary to be a hero (including having a normal alter-ego life).
I think MoS was striving to avoid the trap that Green Lantern fell into where they tried to make a character who was by all accounts an ahole into full-fledged a hero in under a week, in one film. It just doesn't work like that and there has to be a reason for a character change beyond "I have superpowers and a girl to fight for!"
I'm hoping that once the series is flushed out a bit more, Superman will end up being more like what diehards describe and MoS will be looked upon more favorably as a piece of a larger story.
He doesn't just meet Lex Luthor and develop a code. His whole origin, and the reason Kevin Costner got 45 minutes of screen time, is based on him landing with these two genuinely good people who raise him up to be a good honorable man. That's why he's Superman. Because the Kents took him and gave him the best humanity had to offer.
Jonathan Kent was not some puss who extolled the virtues of never ever using your gifts to help people. Certainly he'd never allow himself to die in a tornado for no reason. His death in the 77 film had meaning. Clark couldn't stop a heart attack. Clark could've saved Jonathan Kent in Man of Steel. He chose not to. I guess that's Superman in the 21st century.
Also, Batman's never been shy about destruction. I believe he calls it 'Damn good television'.

That's an ugly Batmobile. It feels like what happened after Keaton's Batmobile and they turned in into a Ratmobile for Batman: Forever.
The Tumbler had a wedge/stealthy/armored look. This looks like an armoured rat mixed with a cheap recreational ATV.
Agreed. Upon first seeing a screenshot of the Tumbler I thought it was the stupidest Batmobile design ever. Within 2 seconds of seeing it in Batman Begins it became the best Batmobile ever. I am not a huge fan of this one simply because it reminds me of the one in Forever and Batman and Robin (minus the neon). Plus can someone tell me why the guy who refuses to use firearms seems to need them all over his car?

In other Batmobiles, at least the weapons are in hidden hardpoints that pop out. This has a pointless and silly out-of-place gun as the hood ornament.

Same. The tumbler had a 'realistic' element to it, this one seems almost cartoonish.

There was something really cool and unique about the way Nolan tried to keep the Batman movies 'real'. Everything was just a bit more practical than the other comic book movies out there. However, that all changes when you have an alien with super strength flying around. I think it is pretty much impossible to keep the cartoon element out of the movie at that point, so you are better off just to embrace it (ala Avengers and Cap's very silly looking costume). Fans will accept it.. but right now I am having a hard time accepting this Batmobile.
We will see I guess.

Very true, I was even very impressed with the way Whedon managed to alter people's expectations and beliefs in The Avengers.
You realize that for the most part Thor and the Hulk cant be killed and ergo are almost certainly going to win, much like Superman, but he made their being hurt and their struggle believable.
Thats something that no Superman movie has managed IMO. Superman is a tough character and I think that perhaps the key to making him work is surrounding him with a supporting cast.
Like you said, embrace the unbelievability and roll with it, but the Superman movies just ask too much and I'm hoping that with the addition of Batman they can maybe reel it in a little bit but unfortunately I think they're going the other way. Looking at that Batmobile it seems like they're going to stretch things as far as they can.

This bothered me most about MoS.
I enjoyed the movie overall, but this part seemed ridiculous.
That fan trailer is actually pretty cool, gave me the goose bumps. Seeing Batman and Superman on screen together for the first time is going to be pretty darn cool. I hope they nail that scene.
Also for those who may have missed it (like myself), in the summer Abrams and Snyder were having some fun with their franchises:

I still have faith. Watchmen had a lot of characters and it was great. Chris Terrio is a great writer. You know it'll have a great score with Hans Zimmer. I don't think Wonder Woman or Aquaman will have more than 5 minutes of screen time.
Bottom line for me, I could watch a Superman Batman movie with 2 hours of Amy Adams eating cornflakes and I would be satisfied.
I like Adams, but for me, she's too old to be LL.

At least she's a step up over Kate Bosworth, although to be honest a damp mop would have been a significant improvement over her gongshow of a performance.
Lois Lane should look like she could just snap and punch you in the face at any given time, and look good while doing it. I got that from Margot Kidder, but not so much from Adams, or I think Kendrick. Who's an actress with that kind of brunette ice queen thing going, that's around the right age?
