I don't think Toronto makes that trade though. Phanuef would add some needed punch to the back end but the Flames likely have to add to that deal. If it is 1 for 1 I think Dion for Cammy is a good deal for Calgary

Phaneuf's character doesn't match what Weisbrod and Feaster want a Calgary Flame to be.

How well do you know his character, though?

Lots of heart and the will to win but still a bit of a meathead. Doesn't fit the hockey IQ mantra they are going for. I would love Phaneuf back though personally.

It's pretty fair to say we've all gotten to know Dion a little more than we should. From the drunken shenanigans to the stupid untimely penalties (Rene Bourque would be proud) and bad pinches and turnovers he has made over his career that hasn't really subsided. It would be more than an educated guess as to where his hockey IQ sits.

I didn't know that hockey sense was equivalent to character.

Holy crap. If Feaster can get anything higher than a 3rd rounder for Cammy it would be considered a major win.

No way. If Regehr and Doug Murray can fetch 2 second rounders, then Cammy should get you AT LEAST that. It is all about timing.
As browna has said. Feaster can't be trigger happy.

On the flip side people need to take into account that its the offseason. A ton of teams (contenders and wannabes) think they have a chance and need firepower come game 1 to help them for 82 games. There will be tons of teams looking to add a top 6 winger where possible...especially when the UFA market sucks.

Reggie and Murray were at the end of their contracts when traded. If the flames won't eat salary on Cammi, there is no way a team will give up 2 2nds for him this summer. Now at the deadline is a different story.

You are making my point for me. There is NO rush to trade him now.
Start the season, and if he gets on a hot streak then move him.
The best time will be at the deadline when he has roughly 1M left on this contract.

Hockey IQ does not equal character. Phaneuf appears to have right character, agreed his hockey IQ is less than desirable.

Given his play last year and his contract, Stajan is one of the last people we should be dealing.

Thats what people said about Bouwmeester too.
Cammalleri will fetch much more than a 3rd IF he is traded...which i seriously doubt we see happen at this point.

God, I'd hate history to be repeated three times! First time, it was a raping. Second time, it was straight up the wazzoo. Third time, who knows which end the Flames are gonna get it.

Don't get me wrong, i have been saying trade Cammi at the deadline for a while.
Going of Millions tweets, it does seem like the flames will trade veterans that do not want to be part of a rebuild, sooner than later.
Millions tweet said that Cammi wants to play in the east and it looks like the flames are trying to make it happen. I don't even know if Cammi has a NTC anymore, but its not out of character for flames ownership/managment to try and grant the wishes of their veterans.
