REVENGE!!!
To be true and proper revenge, the deal would have to be 5 for 5. Make the Leafs throw in Kessel, Reimer, and a prospect — and have Doug Risebrough sign the trade document as a witness.

I wouldn't have a problem with Phaneuf being brought back for the year. We need bodies to fill out the defense, and he's a legitimate top 4 guy.

I've noted that I am not a fan of re-treads. But for the sake of conversation, Andrew Ference and Eric Nystrom. How many people would find these two maybe a little more of a good re-tread.

For agruments sake is Ference the guy you sign to pair with Wideman?

Personally I was a fan of Ference and was P/O'ed he was traded.

Nystrom for me is a no but I am interested in hearing what people think.

I'd be happy with Ference back. I also agree that Nystrom isn't as high a priority.

I'd like the Dion back here. Only because he brings his wife in tow. Hell I'd even take sloppy thirds!!

This is by far the worst mock draft I have seen. No wonder $portsnet is so bush league.

Ecstatic with Ference. Would happily welcome Nystrom at a decent price - maybe even at a "that's a bit steep" price (because we need grit)

Both are guys that would want the kids to emulate

I'd be good with Ference. He fills a role we can't fill from the system. I don't know if that's the case with Nystrom.

i'd take both.... both are great role models to model your game by

and we need to meet the cap floor

I can certainly see a mentorship fit for Ference when it comes to guys like Seiloff and Ramage, meh I guess all of rhe young D-men. Also believe he would be one of a few D-men that Wideman can work well with (i.e. can cover for Widemans defensive gafs when they do happen).

Big NO no trading for Phaneuf. He's the most over-rated player in the NHL right now. I wouldn't trade Stajan for him. At least Stajan works hard and fills a role that this team needs. Phangoof only knows how to float around in the defensive zone and fish pucks out of his goalie's net. He's atrocious.

I'd be ecstatic if they brought back Ference and Nystrom... As long as current vets are being shipped out.

I don't care if a player is a re-tread or not as long as they fill a need

For what we are trying to accomplish Nystrom and Ference make more sense than Neon Dion.

Both Nystrom and Ference were one of the hardest working Flames during their respective tenures. They aren't the most talented players, but have the work ethic we need to teach our developing team. They also work hard in a get results kind of way, as oppossed to a grind it out Sarich or Comeau kind of way.

The Flames still to ice some kind of team and can't afford to spoil the development of prospects by forcing them onto the ice too early.

Neon Dion...I'm not so sure about. He's going to teach the kids to wear Ed Hardy, start fights with vets in the locker room, repeatedly miss shots from the point, aovid learning how to properly turn around on ice skates, make bad situations worse, and date movie stars? The guy continues to lack serious hockey smarts. Not sure he's the kind of guy I want to have around the team.

From the Toronto media:

Quote:
The pinch on Boston winger Nathan Horton wasn’t even the first time that night that Phaneuf went for the big hit at the blueline, missed and created a Bruins scoring chance. He also gambled with the puck too often in the third period, creating anxious moments.
Phaneuf is 28. He’s been in the league eight seasons, yet continues to make the same mistakes as when he arrived.
The longer Phaneuf stays on the ice, the greater the chance one of those egregious decisions leads to a loss. He played 31:14 on Wednesday – minutes worthy of a No. 1 defenceman – and should not.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sport...ticle11839336/

Sound familiar...8 years later, and he still can't figure it out. I'll always hate Sutter for not brining back a high 1st rounder or high end offensive prospect for Phaneuf, but I don't miss him.

Call me crazy but I'd do Cammy for Phaneuf straight up. Both deals expire at the end of the year, and maybe Toronto would throw in the 4th rounder we lost acquiring Knight, because we saved them half a million. I've always like Phaneuf, and no question he has his faults, but we likely aren't getting a sniff of the playoffs this year anyways. If he could regain the form shown his 1st 3 seasons here, he'd be a defenseman we could really use and possibly be re-signed. If he continues to under perform, let him walk after the season. He may not be a legit #1 D-man but he is a solid top 4 guy. I'd love to see what would happen with him in Calgary now that Brent, Iggy, and Reggie are gone. I would think Cammy wouldn't have a problem waiving to go to Toronto.
