I read somewhere that TB put this season down to a bad year and they are not rebuilding but in more of a win now mode. If that is the case could they be the trade partner that we are looking for to move up in the draft?

I am not sure we have the parts to make a deal but it is certainly worth looking at.

I personally think Tampa takes Drouin, he has the potential to be an impact player next season, and is probably the most talented forward in the draft.

Drouin gives them the play making winger for Stamkos, that they will need to replace once St.Louis retires. You probably couldn't have planned a better transition actually.

For some reason they don't like drafting players that are playing outside of NA (perhaps due to lack of scouting in Europe?)

Pretty good indicator they might not pick Nichuskin or Lindholm
My Guess is Carolina either trades their pick, or goes off the board and picks Nurse.

Colorado: Jones
Florida: Mackinnon
Tampa: Drouin
Nashville: Lindholm/Barkov (They have had success with Swedish players in the past)
Carolina: Nurse or Trade Back
Calgary: Lindholm/Barkov/Monahan

I actually think you could make a much better show out of this than the "Bill Daly opens a bunch of envelopes" method they currently use.

Start with a quick explanation similar to what Bettman did: "there are 1001 possible combinations of 4 balls that can be drawn with each team randomly assigned the number of combinations shown on this giant screen".

Draw the first ball, then update the number of combinations that are still possible for each team on the giant board. i.e. if ball 14 is drawn, the computer removes all combinations without the 14 and updates the display with the new percentages. Repeat for the second and third balls, updating the screen after each one.

When only one ball is left to draw there will be 11 possibilities. At this point you change the screen to show who wins for each of the 11 remaining balls and have the dramatic conclusions of drawing the last ball and getting the winner. So, if balls 3,4 and 5 were the first three shown you'd have part of your screen showing something like:
1: Florida
2: Colorado
6: Tampa Bay
7: Calgary
8: Florida
etc.
and a close-up of the machine spitting out that last ball on the other side. You'd know exactly what outcome you are cheering for and be able to tell in an instant who the winner is.

It really wouldn't be hard to follow, there is no need for the fans to worry about the giant list of combinations assigned to each team as the computer would be keeping the available possibilities updated. The outcome would not be known until the final ball is drawn (unlike the current envelope system) unless by some fluke one team owns all 11 combinations that include the first three numbers. This would also remove most of the conspiracy theories as you are seeing the actual draw, live.

In a way this would be similar to the World Cup or Champions League draws where they first draw the name of a team, then the screens update to show which pools they can go into, then they draw the pool.

Thoughts?

There should be a lottery for the top 5 picks, not just the first pick.

In your opinion, what's the difference between your 1st and 6th picks? Is it franchise changing?

I almost fell asleep watching that Draft Lottery on TSN. The worst part was there wasn't really any suspense since whenever Bill Daly opens the envelope you can see the team right away. I am glad the Oilers didn't win the lottery but was dissapointed that the team that pretty much tanked all their remaining games won it. I don't think Colorado deserves to win that lottery because of the way they conduct late in the season. For the team with so much talent up front especially, seeing them lose those remaining games makes me sick. I am not a big fan of JS Giguere but when he lambasted the whole team after their lost to Calgary, i started getting respect with the guy. I think he was the only player in that team that cares about winning even though they were out of contention. I am glad the Calgary Flames organization was not that shallow as the Avalanche, Nashville and Oilers management for trying to let the team be competitive in their last few games. The reason they lost to St. Louis and Chicago in their last two games was because those two teams are much, much better than them. I sure hope whoever Colorado pick on the NHL Draft becomes the next Alexander Daigle and Brian Lawton of all the first pick overall .... a BUST!!

I also think that they should draw for all of the placings, but if they are just going to do the first, like now, this is an excellent way to do it.

This is a great idea. I'm pretty sure this objection could be overcome by making sure every combination of the first 3 balls has more than one team in the next 14 choices. Should be completely doable. I also think it'd be better to draw for all the non-playoff positions, but if not they should definitely do this. It'd be way better television.

That may be fair but I suggest they wait until the Flames come out of this tailspin in 2016. I really like our chances for a really top pick in 2014 and Conner Mcdavid in 2015. The Flames were just not bad enough yet to get 1st overall this year.

It is absolutely ridiculous how a team that boasts Stamkos, VL, and St. Louis finished with a worse record than us.
