that's what I thought. He had a grace underpressure that I don't think I would have after seeing that picture.

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about Cowperson? IIRC, and I am probably wrong about that, he was running one of the bigger marathons in the US this year? Perhaps it was the Los Angeles Marathon and I'm mistaken.

He's fine. He was posting in this thread already.

What a bunch of scum. I hope they all get publicly ridiculed.
People who were there have said that these jackets were being openly distributed to take to people who were either injured or had nowhere to go, so perhaps we need to ease the foot off the scum accusations.

The two bombs that ripped through the crowds at the Boston Marathon, killing three people and wounding more than 170, were fashioned out of pressure cookers and packed with shards of metal, nails and ball bearings, a person briefed on the investigation said Tuesday.
The details on the apparently crude but deadly explosives emerged as investigators appealed to the public for amateur video and photos that might yield clues, and the chief FBI agent in Boston vowed "we will go to the ends of the Earth" to find those responsible.
A person who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the investigation was still going on said that the explosives were put in 6-litre pressure cookers, placed in black duffel bags and left on the ground. They were packed with shrapnel to inflict maximum carnage, the person said.
The person said law enforcement officials have some of the bomb components but do not yet know what was used to set off the explosives.
A doctor treating the wounded appeared to corroborate the person’s account, saying one of the victims was maimed by what looked like ball bearings or BBs. Doctors also said they removed a host of sharp objects from the victims, including nails that were sticking out of one little girl’s body.

So the bombs were actually pressure cookers loaded with shrapnel. The article quotes a 2010 FBI and Homeland Security intelligence report, something I have read before in my grad studies. Very interesting to see that these pressure cooker bombs have been used in Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Nepal before.
I feel the gap is narrowing on a suspect profile. However, nothing solid as of yet.
Feel free to put your pissing match on hold, or take it to PM. I'm tired of reading crap like this when I want info on the bombings.
Edit: But thanks for the article regardless.
What? You just got info. Up to date info on the status of the investigation and also info that erodes false, baseless reporting perpetuated by unscrupulous and shameful media organizations.
The Centennial Olympic Park Bombing was a terrorist bombing on July 27, 1996 in Atlanta, Georgia, United States during the 1996 Summer Olympics, the first of four committed by Eric Robert Rudolph. Two people died, and 111 were injured.

Ok, enough bickering about sources guys. We can all agree that not every media source is created equal, but this isn't the place to discuss it. Take it to PM or start another thread.

This is what caught my eye, how they won't link to the guys feed, which is related to a previous discussion on this thread (I like how CNN handled it):
Quote:
Conspiracy theories We almost hate to even address this stuff. We'll start with a bottom line: Anyone saying they know what happened at this point is making it up. But that didn't stop far-fetched imaginings, often based in political ideology, from flying almost immediately after the attack. One syndicated talk show host (who won't be named and whose content won't be linked here) tweeted that the attacks "stink to high heaven" of a so-called "false flag," or staged attack. "False flag" is an old naval term that's come to be used for a military action that's not what it appears to be.
Also this restores a little faith in humanity:

At least one Web user was ready for this. He registered a website -- bostonmarathonconspiracy.com -- on Monday. Clicking the link reveals a white page with black text reading: "I bought this domain to keep some conspiracy theory kook from owning it. Please keep the victims of this event and their families in your thoughts. Thank you
If anyone is kept sheltered from the events across the world it's Americans. I was arguing with a group of major Republican supporters from California not too long ago and they told me that the media there didn't report any sort of civilian casuality numbers from Iraq or Afgahnastan. They also used to have a ban on reporting on soldiers funerals...
That is messed up.
The highlighted portions are completely false. There was a ban on photos of returning dead service members for a brief period, but never one on reporting soldier's funerals.
You could regularly find estimates of civilian casualties throughout the media. They varied widely, but were always present.
I'm not calling you a liar, just that the people you were speaking to were mistaken.

Did the LA Marathon a month ago, which is 25,000 runners. Pretty fresh picturing running the final mile down Ocean Blvd in Santa Monica, thousands on each side of the road, pressed up against the barricades, many cheering you on by name (on your race bib) and you're high-fiving them as you're closing it out and . . . . . KABOOOOM!!
Just hard to picture that last part, to have that moment taken away from you and everyone else. Its a sea of happy, loud humanity for 26.2 miles.
An attack like that is impossible to defend against. You can't guard 26.2 miles and the hundreds of thousands who line the route.
I've said before that the start line of a race is the Happiest Place On Earth, not Disneyland.
Some innocence was lost yesterday. The race will happen again, and again and again . . . . but everyone will be looking over their shoulder from now on.
Sad times.
