Pitch Meeting just did Batman (1989). One thing that stood out for me was how themed it was. It had such a gothic, comic book look, without being Adam West Batman campy. This new movie is trying to brand itself as artistic, but that is not what I am seeing in the trailers. The trailers just make it look like the run-of-the-mill gritty crime drama where the main character just happens to be Batman.

The world doesn't need a new Batman movie but DC and WB need to continue to make money while superhero movies are still bringing in big audiences. Sounds like this one for the most part will appeal to a person like me that has superhero fatigue because it's more akin to the Joker than a lot of Marvel stuff tailored more to young audiences.

I could watch endless new Batman films, as long as they are good. A good movie is a good movie. There's so much to work with Batman and so many different takes, that I really don't see the problem with frequent reboots.
And yes, no need to force joy into Batman's character. That hasn't worked since Adam West.

I guess my superhero fatigue has extended to all versions of superhero movies, whether they be campy, funny, or gritty. Actually, I find gritty gets old the quickest, while humour and action can reinvent themselves.
If you want to make a gritty movie, why even put comic book characters in there?
Maybe I am just not into gritty movies. I mean if some studio wanted to remake the Goonies into a hard R-rated movie by throwing in some child rape, I'd probably give it a hard pass.

Put me in the Nolan camp (but only his).
I watched the old show as a kid but always found it just a stupid fun way to pass the time until something I liked better came on.
Nolan changed my attitude towards Batman. So I too could watch endless Batman films, IF give the Nolan treatment.
Loved that take on the character and mythos. Was dark buit without going too far down that path. You always had some cheeky moments from Bale or Freeman to keep things afloat from a mood standpoint. Visually engaging and always had high stakes (and thankfully wasn't afraid to kill off characters).
The more recent interpretation was awful. But we'll see how this one goes.

I largely agree right up to the end there. The problem with Batfleck wasnt even Affleck or his portrayal but rather that there really wasnt anything for him to do.
He just got lost in the shuffle of too many characters and too much crazy stuff going on. He was barely even a part of it.
Even 'Batman vs. Superman' he was basically a side-piece.

There are thousands of Batman comics. Stories have been rehashed and retconned dozens of times. Batman in hundreds of different settings, over different times. Should they stop writing Batman comics?
If there are stories to tell, why not make movies and TV shows about them?

As much as people joke about this, the last two sequels also ruined the amazing world that Tim Burton built.
https://batmanfanon.fandom.com/wiki/...es_(Batman_III)
Robin Williams as the Riddler could have been amazing.
WB and McDonalds conspiring to destroy Tim Burton's vision makes the whole thing sit even worse.

The Batman was so epic. 3hrs long and I felt I could have Watched for 4hrs and still be invested in the characters and the world they created. I also loved how they set up some villains for the next one.
It really felt like a detective and noir story. I feel like this is going to be a huge hit with audiences.

To be fair, it would’ve only been a shock if your personal review of it was any less than glowing. We all saw that one coming :P

Lifelong fans will always see it through rose-coloured glasses.
Initial reactions are typically skewed in one way or the other.
It's after second/third viewings in the weeks to follow when people actually settle on how they feel about a film.
See: any blockbuster ever.

My favorite part was when Ben Affleck and Christian Bale came out of a portal.

Except if this somehow made it on to film, you know it would be Kilmer and Clooney.

Lol. I hate that this works too because it would get my ass to the theatre so fast.

I also just saw the long awaited sequel to Seven. I enjoyed it so much, I started a new thread.
