I never got why a serious take on Batman was a bad thing. I really don't want a Batman film with a MCU tone. That works for them, but wouldn't work for Batman IMO.
Most of the reviews I've read have been positive. Going today to see it, hopefully I will enjoy it (I'm pretty sure I will )

Especially as a response to be more like MCU. That would be unbearable.
“Joyless”, sounds like a Batman movie. Still excited.
Oh I remember the joyousness of The Joker shoving a pencil through a guys face and terrorizing the city, corrupt police, and the DAs turn from hero to psycho villain. Such joy.
I don't think The Batman will be a bad movie, I just think it'll end up being forgotten. I don't see any hype around it like we saw for the Nolan trilogy or any of the MCU tentpoles, and Batman movies have been done to death by this point

I don't see why the world needs another Batman movie. There is nothing in there that looks original or interesting to me. So it might be good, but I will pass.
Pitch Meeting just did Batman (1989). One thing that stood out for me was how themed it was. It had such a gothic, comic book look, without being Adam West Batman campy. This new movie is trying to brand itself as artistic, but that is not what I am seeing in the trailers. The trailers just make it look like the run-of-the-mill gritty crime drama where the main character just happens to be Batman.

I don't know how seriously you can take someone that dresses up in a costume with a cape to fight crime.
I am fine with drama, suspense dark tone etc. But a superhero movie that takes itself too seriously might always have a problem appealing to a broader audience.
