Colostin is just amazing, I'm glad I nabbed him on those fantasy waivers in week 3. Drew Brees was the best FA signing this offseason and Sean Payton right now is coach of the year. I know it's just pointing out the obvious, but for playing in maybe the leagues hardest division, the Saints have just done a complete 180. Awsome to see in a city that needs it
Marvin Harrison is amazing. I finally saw that catch and wow, I don't think theres anybody better then him at keeping there feet inbounds. Was funny to see him actually "trash talk" by spiking the ball right in front of the NE linebacker.

I was looking up Colston on the weekend - is it true he didn't play in 04 & 05?
His value in Yahoo Fantasy leagues is he is listed as TE/WR.
Having him in the TE slot is a huge advantage

I think the issue was Brooks. That may be the fault of Haslett (or the GM) for not sitting/replacing him, but it sure does look like Brees has made one heck of a difference. I'm sure having a true home field this year helps, but not for the turnaround that has happened so far thsi season.
|
The answer is all of the above, but at best the Saints would have been mediocre last season. Brooks, though athletically gifted was truly the anti-Brees, in that he was not a leader, made poor decisions consistently, and had no heart (sounds like a certain Stamp QB). Haslett was a coach who believed in having superior athletes rather than good football players, Payton is the complete opposite, the Colston pick is a perfect example. Payton let him develop in the pre-season and when he realized that he ran great routes, and never dropped the ball, he jettisoned Stallworth who was the epitome of a Haslett player, amazing athlete, average football player(we got Simoneau and a third rounder). Jake Delhomme is another excellent example of the Haslett regime, all he did when he played was drive the team down the field, make good decisions, and was a natural leader, but he didn't have the athletic ability of Brooks, so ultimately he was let go to a division rival no-less.

Funny, my buddy was over for the Saints opener against Cleveland, and he watched Colston have a great game, then went back to his yahoo league and was more than pleased to see Colston listed as a tight end.

Man, was that ever an awful Monday Night game. Considering NBC paid like 1/8 for the rights to Sunday Night Football and has flexible scheduling, I'd say they got the sweet heart deal and ESPN got raped. Third time in Prime time games for the Raiders this year and they have 3 points collectively. I like watching the Raiders suck as much as anyone, but I much prefer a decent football game to the crap they play.

Is that quite possibly the worst offensive line of the past decade? Maybe two decades. I don't think I've ever seen three sacks on consecutive plays. I don't like the Raiders either, but you have to feel for their defense when the offense sucks that bad.

Well being a Chief fan my team was sort of the polar opposite, had to feel for the offence when you average 30+ points a game, and 400+ yards and still finish .500 or worse. Although I think even those bad Chiefs defences even put up more points than the Raiders offence has this year.

Not as great as Rod Smith's, but darn close!

Yeah, he was pretty fired up! You don't see that very often. He stayed fired up over on the sidelines too. It did look funny!

I didn't even bother tuning in. That says something. The only other times I miss Monday night football are for attending or watching Flames games. Or for family or business obligations. To be home and not even care to change the channel to the game is huge. How many other hardcore football fans said, "Raiders again? What else is on?" Probably helped the ratings for hockey and basketball last night some what.

That's what the raiders get for hiring Dick Louden as their Offensive co-ordinator.

Exactly. Which is also why Adrian McPherson will probably be gone soon as well(he's on the PR I believe). So I must ask, as a fellow Saints fan, at what point will you start to truly feel this team will be in the playoffs? Will a win on Sunday in Pitt, putting the Saints at 7-2, do it for you? I mean 6-2 looks very promising, especially in a conference where 4-4 is currently a playoff spot. But Im sure youve been a Saints fan for awhile, and recall them gassing away great starts, only to miss the playoffs(1993: 5-0 start, only to finish 8-8. 2002: 6-1(and later 9-4) start, only to finish 9-7 and out of the playoffs).
I mean I know this is a COMPLETELY different team compared to those ones in the past. But still, as a Saints fan, you cant help but have that negativity built into you. Even now at 6-2, Im cautiously guarded. I dunno though. Get a big win tomorrow against slumping Pitt, and then go home next week and beat the up-and-down Bengals before they re-discover themselves, and get to 8-2. Then Ill start looking at possible playoff matchups.

It's great to see you, as a Saints fan, have your expectations reeled in. I have to tell you, though, I think they are a playoff team and make it rather easily....and I think they LOSE this weekend. I don't think you have much to worry about.

Playoffs? I'm trying not to get my expectations too high, but with this QB and coaching staff, I can't see them not making it. I think the divisional rivals will beat each other up, and we'll get the division with a 10-6 record. As for the game today, I think this is a pretty big benchmark for where this team is at, going into a tough stadium against a wounded animal of a team, this scenario has been brutal over the years for the Saints.

Hey Tranny...you think Favre is having fun?
Just saw him carrying Driver off the field. Great stuff.

nasty hit by McCree of the Chargers, KOed the Bengal's player. Good to see him get up and walk off the field. How is McCree still in the game after that???
Missed the game but the damn Jets somehow beat my Pats today. Ugh.

What is it with the Texans beating Jacksonville again?

KC took a huge blow at there playoff chances,
Miamis defence is a beast. Our offence still needs work, next up Minny at home, it's a very winnable game and a chance to put Miami back at 4-6
If this team can fight it's way back to .500 they just might have a small chance at a playoff spot. One game at a time.
