Hard to imagine this was plan B really. Just so dramatically different from what they started the summer with.

I honestly don’t know if this works or not but I like it. The core of this team was not going to be a contender IMO.
Agreed.

I didn't like the core, said it numerous times over the past two off seasons. But to change a core I didn't see it as possible to swap it for another one ... thought you'd have to tear it down and rebuild.

For Kadri, the Flames are a lot more like the Avs he just left than a lot of teams. Deep D (albeit no Makar, but then, they didn't have a Tanev equivalent). Mackinnon is obviously a tier above Lindy but Lindy's still a great player. Huberdeau = Rantanen, Mangiapane = Nichuskin, Backlund > Newhook, Weegar = Toews, Byram = Andersson, Hanifin > Girard, Tofolli = Burakovsky, Markstrom > Keumper. I guess Kadri is the Landeskog in the equation.

Colorado has an edge based on Makar and Mackinnon, but it's not huge.

I don't know if we are better.

But I feel like we are much more suited (on paper) to what Darryl Sutter would prefer.

Deeper at center, deeper on defense.

This has been the most active and interesting off-season I can remember in Flames history. Has there ever been a summer with more big changes than this?

I keep thinking/hoping this do for the Flames what it did in 1990 for the Blue Jays when they swapped out Tony Fernandez and Fred McGriff and brought in Joe Carter and Robbie Alomar.

I was one of the people who wanted to see the core blown up. I never thought it would have turned into what we have today, but I'm pleasantly surprised and excited to see the change. I didn't have much faith in our previous core and I'd rather take this shakeup and the risks associated with it then have to continue watching the same core disappoint again and again.

Now if the 22-23 Flames season is as entertaining as this off-season, we are in for a treat!

My biggest problem with a Gaudreau/Tkachuk core was the age difference. You probably won't get those two in their prime together.

I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet, but I cannot wait to see the hilarity that will be Kane vs Kadri.

Never would've imagined shedding all the faces of the original Treliving rebuild by September when this past season concluded.

It's stunning in a lot of ways.

I am 100% satisfied with Everything they’ve done since the Tkachuk trade.

This team is completely transformed, and it took 5 weeks instead of 5 years.

What’s not to love.

The Flames must be one of the oldest teams in the NHL right now.
