Yes it was obvious and unmistakeable to whom he was speaking at the time and therefore a safe place to put those words together.
I think it may have been more natural to just say you, or yourselves, or the people that cover the team.
He chose the words he used and used them twice where there is no room for inflammation.
Isn’t he clever.

Isn't it already? The league just turfed it's most well known persona for saying "you people" on live tv. Now this comes up as something even categorically worse. Whatever goes down will be happening soon and my guess is he's coached his last game as soon as someone verifies the accusations or Peters owns it.
Saying he shouldn't be fired is just ridiculous given how immoral and idiotic these claims are of a head coach in the NHL. I know I will lose a ton of respect for this organization if they somehow let Peter's continue. If the claims are untrue, that is an entirely different issue altogether.

Some of the mental gymnastics would be amusing if they weren't so transparent. "Maybe Peters said the word because he didn't want Aliu playing music that said the word?"
Really? That actually makes any kind of sense?
Let me answer that. No, no it doesn't. At all.
Also, people are actually upset people used the phrase "You people" because of Cherry? Did you actually miss the entire point of that controversy, which wasn't the "You people" part, it was the "You people...that come here."
Wow.

If this turns out to be true or probable, he's gone. There is just no way that you can keep a guy on staff after that.
Might as well open a thread speculating on who will take over at this point.

That would be a very short thread. Geoff Ward is the associate coach. In an emergency situation he would undoubtedly take over on an interim basis.

I don't know all the context yet, none of us do.
But if they come down hard on Peters and this leads to coaches having second thoughts about being absolute #######s in the dressing room and leads to more inclusion in hockey, then i am all for it.
Yes people can change, yes people can have remorse for their actions. But they still have to pay for their actions, regardless of when it happened. This is what creates accountability in our society and this is what allows us to progress as a people.
imo.

Unless you are Forge FC...
Agreed though, if its true, I doubt the Flames want the bad PR associated with keeping an otherwise slumping coach.

Not acceptable, but there's a big difference between quoting lyrics or using the term ironically because it's so awful, especially 15 years ago, and telling a black guy to turn off his "****** music."
For the record, I'd like to see Peters fired based on performance, but context does matter.

You really didn't need to explain what camel case, which is also known as "alternating caps," is. I know, and I was just making an observation of how it actually makes people sound.

Plus he has all that experience running the powerplay, which I hear is great!

@WesGilbertson
Sean McMorrow played for Peters in 2008-09 season in Rockford ...
Sean McMorrow @sheriffmcmorrow
If you think Mike Commodore had harsh words for Babcock you are in for a treat to hear what I would have to say about Bill Peters ... Worst human being to ever coach me ... treated me terrible on a AHL team (IceHogs) where I won a League Award for Community Service. #badguy

Depending on how the NHL's investigation goes, I could see the Flames being penalized by the league in some way. I understand this didn't happen when Peters was with the Flames but he is Oliver Kylington's coach right now. So, the potential for more current incidents being discovered is there.
