No, it's never acceptable - but whether an apology 11 years later is enough is what's left to be determined IMO. We're talking moron vs. racist to me.
His position also narrows the number of situations by a significant margin. But if it was the exact scenario I wrote... he's a moron, and I want to know that nothing in the last 11 years has been a repeat of that lesson... but he's a moron.
BUT, there's so much left to be learned from all of this and that phone call with Akim would be pretty interesting to hear about. Whatever grey area there is in what this all means would be black and white to Tre now - and the validity of whatever it is.

Of course they don't and shouldn't have to. That said, people can change. I've seen it happen. I'd like to hear what he has to say about it before coming down on the judgment.
I suspect I will be disappointed though.

If the accusations prove true, and even if Peters issues a sincere apology, this will have a pretty profound effect on how his current players view him.
I can't see him keeping his job in this scenario.

lol, no it hasn't. People have taken sides when accusations are made for the entirety of human history.
Also, "WhAt HaPpEnEd To InNoCeNt UnTiL pRoVeN gUiLtY??" is rarely a good argument in debates like this. Inevitably, it is someone trying to sound smart or reasoned, and failing miserably on both counts.

Yup, i hope he apologizes, and i definitely won't question the sincerity of the apology. As others have said people grow. I just don't know if the flames can keep him as their coach regardless.

LOL, ok 2 things here.
I encourage everyone to watch the South Park episode on Harley riders - as (we're not there yet, I don't think...) I also do miss using a certain word you've referenced here. And it never meant 'gay' to me.
But I love the context someone gave earlier in this thread for us to remember 2008.
You absolutely should have been roasted for saying "that n-word won the election!!!". I definitely heard it, I definitely heard it get a chuckle and cheers... but then we all went about thinking "well, I guess Kevin's a racist...?"

The league pressure right now is likely immense already.
This taints multiple organizations. Multiple GMs.
As much damage control as the Flames are doing right now, it's been a long friggin night for Stan Bowman and company. Does he escape the fallout?
All of a sudden there are lots of 'hockey men' who probably did not sleep well last night and who won't for the near future.

I'm a little confused by the second half of his tweets. When he says he rebelled does he mean specifically about that, or generally?
The Hawks have a problem too. What did Stan Bowman etc. know? It's weird that he references a letter. Wouldn't a coach just pick up the phone to talk to management about a player?

Any context? Not even in a court of law where you're giving testimony and are asked exactly which racial epithet was uttered that one time? What if someone 's life was on the line having been charged with first degree bad word saying nana boo boo?

I wonder if the letter to Bowman still exists somewhere? Might shed some light on things.

I'm pretty sure he was talking about the context of the locker room. Not in some wildly different hypothetical, like testimony or in a movie about slavery or racism or something.

You are absolutely correct sir. Thank you for pointing an obviously similar and comparable example of the scenario.

The same could be said about the use of alternating caps.

Camel case is actually used to sound condescending and dismissive. Which, given whom I am challenging on that argument, is a guilt I'll happily own.

That's true. Although, there are levels to this. If Peters was just quoting lyrics from the song, an apology is sufficient. If Peters actually has a problem with people of colour, then he should be fired.
