Exciting times when you can look at an All-Star roster and legitimately say the Flames would be better.

Joe Pavelski sucks. So does Leon Draisaitl.

The problem the All-Star game has even if it’s 3 on 3 is that it’s passionless hockey. Passionless hockey just is not that interesting to watch. Passionless anything is not that interesting to watch. That’s why baseball tried to do something to make people try a bit more.
It’s the same problem hockey has the more they continue to try and scrape physicality out of the game. It’s also why playoffs are so good- you don’t see any off nights as everybody can almost taste the glory.
The current format is not a lot different than walking to your local community rink and watching people play, the only difference is the lights, marketing, names and jerseys.
That’s why I prefer the skills competition as at least it’s sort of unique and they seem to try more at that event. But the game itself has never and will never be good. It’s supposed to be for kids, and light hearted and fun though so really, who cares.

I liked the idea of having the women, I only wish the NHL gave it more prominence. I think the only event they showed was the fastest skater. I saw a bit of the puck control, they were zoomed out and not really covering it, but the Ref skated right in front of the woman doing it. I applaud the NHL for doing it, but damn, do it right and give the women the same coverage and courtesy you give the men.

On that note, it would be awesome if they had a women player on each team for the actual all star game next year. I might actually watch it.

Did you watch the CWHL all-star game last week? Good option if you wanted to watch the top women players.

I was thinking the same thing. This is the first time I've held any interest in all-star weekend in over 10 years. I didn't watch the game, but I looked up what the girls did because that's all that was talked about on the radio. If you put a girl on each team, I'd watch.

Next year the girls should have a team in the 3 on 3 tournament.
Or as has been suggested, a couple of women on each team.

I do. I take my nieces. I also go to some of the games where the national team plays the midget boys. We are talking about all star weekend. I'm saying that having girls out there with the guys, at some capacity, would make me interested in all star weekend again.
All star weekend has been a snore fest for 2 decades. I stopped paying attention over 10 years ago. This was the first weekend I actually had some interest and it was only because of the media on the two American girls after the fact. I wanted to watch what the media was talking about.

I liked it during the skills competition as you can fit in more people, but this would take away from NHL players who should be in the All Star Game.
That's already an issue as it is.

an entire team? Lets not get carried away here...there were some very good high end skills displayed in the skills comp...Canadian National Womens team still loses to local AAA boys teams though overall it would be a bit of a farce. And really, the NHL players half ass it enough already...imagine them playing against a womens team?

The first year of 3 on 3 was awesome. This year was not, mainly to me because the Pacific dogged it so badly from Gibson on out. Any line that decided to compete a little harder basically had the advantage. And putting lesser talents on because SJ also hurt.
Maybe they need more one the line. Or just don't even do it.

The game did feel stale this year and needs another shake up. I was watching Rugby Sevens over the weekend and couldn't help but think 3 on 3 hockey would also work well as an international tournament.
Go with 6 teams: Canada, USA, Russia, Sweden, Finland, and Europe split in 2 pools with the top 2 progressing. On Day 1 play 6 round robin games then on Day 2 play the semi finals, a 5th place game, a 3rd place game, and the final. We get some much needed international play, the players might actually try, and the fans get a full weekend of hockey.

Anyone notice that this Greco kid had a time faster than McDavid's in the AHL Skills comp? I don't know if they run the race the same.
