Maybe MacLean is just tired of Bettman making him look like an idiot.

Leave it to the Oilers to make a team of allstars suck.

I decided to watch this last game on NBC instead of CBC and I must admit that I really like the new puck tracker technology especially when the players are in a tight space moving the puck around or dangling on rushes. I dislike when they turn the player names on though. It takes up too much space and ruins the view.

should have watched NBC to see if Roenick goes off on Edmonton again!
but tuning in to see what the puck tracking is all about... tracking ice time is cool...not a huge fan of the con trails tho...remind me of a magna doodle...
they should have a read out of shots velocity on every shot imo... like a pitcher

Even at the all star game, the real best player in hockey shows up. Now there is a real captain. Sid showing everyone just how good he is.

Too many no-good Oilers and hometown-favorite Sharks who are clearly past their prime. This is reinforced by the fact that the previously-winless Central division got slaughtered by the Metropolitan.

Ron MacLean is the WORST host/interviewer in the business. Every interview turns into Ron lecturing whomever he is talking with about something from 40 years ago and wasting the guests time.
As much as Strombo was hated by most people he would ask a question and get out of the way to allow the guest to answer, he never acted like the smartest guy in the room. It is sad when Cherry is the smartest one on the set in his 5 minutes a week.

Yeah, Ron has lost it.
Strombo was mis-used IMO. I’m a huge fan of his interviews, but he’s not a host in the way HNIC used him. His thing should have been After Hours, giving real interviews to players. Would have been fantastic. It was a complete waste of talent IMO. Not to criticize Dave Amber, I think he does the job well, but it shows the difference between a panel host and an interviewer IMO.
Ron was a great panel host, until he wasn’t. Just another thing Rogers messed up when they got the exclusive rights.

I really liked Strombo on the panel. Ah well. Guess people want more Punchy McPunchface Kypreos. That guy gives me a headache.
Ron now thinks he's the smartest guy in the room. Years of gov't employment will do that to you.

The panel is about making too many guys the expert. Your job as host is to be the every man who has to hear why your opinion is either wrong, or not as right as it should be.
Ron pulled that off well for a long time next to Cherry. Other hosts can pull it off as well. Strombo is a bit more inquisitive than that. His style tends to challenge guys to the point (which doesn’t take much) they don’t feel they know everything which isn’t the point of a panel.

Yeah, I always feel like such a party pooper, but the All-Star break is such a drag for me. I have zero interest.
But it seems like some players like it and it is a good marketing gimmick. I just can't wait for Flames hockey again.

3v3 GF/60:
Pacific All-stars: 12.00
Calgary Flames: 19.91 (against actual defense)
3v3 GA/60
Pacific All-stars: 30.00
Calgary Flames: 11.95 (admittedly not against all-star teams)

I was pretty excited to see the game on Saturday but at tge end I felt pretty let down. The NHL needs to do something to make it more special and exciting. I'm not exactly sure what the solution is though. I watched to the very end but with 3 or 4 minutes to go in tge last game I really wanted it to be over. I probably could have just turned it off at that point but I waited to the end.

My take aways from the All-Star weekend:
- LOVE seeing the women do well and the positive response from everyone. Very cool idea from the NHL to include the women and no doubt inspired some young girls on Friday. Good for them and good for hockey.
- I actually liked the passing event. It may not be super flashy, but as a hockey fan and player you know how difficult that stuff is, so it's impressive to watch.
- I thought when they had the cones closer together on the stickhandling it made it look more exciting.
- Could/should they add a Top Speed to the fastest skater event?
- I was thinking about how to add a fun little dynamic skill game of posties or HORSE.
- I liked the jersey idea, but I feel like they still could have had 4 unique team colors instead of the black and white for each squad.
- I thought the first few years of 3v3 were awesome but this year seemed...meh. Not sure why. Maybe its because the actual best players arent there....
- F*** the Oilers and their loser stink. The Pacific would have done better if their team was purely made up of Johnny, Gio, Monahan, Lindholm, Tkachuk, Backlund and Brodie.
- I didn't hate Bieksa and actually kind of enjoyed him. Mostly because he was taking pot-shots at Scott Oake the whole time who is just cringe-worthy terrible. Like so terrible. It's beyond description. There is WAY better people to do that job. Let them do it. Fire that guy. He's bad.
