Make no mistake, I'm not saying he's a stud and a sure fire NHL'er, but some people need to be a little realistic. Goalies are an absolute crap shoot and can take years to develop.
I wouldn't draw a ton of conclusions based on one game. That's all I'm saying.

Charlottetown isn't brutal... they've made the playoffs all three years he's been there. They went to the second round last year.
McDonald's stats have gotten worse every single year. He's fallen a long way from 2014.

His stats are actually fairly consistent.
All I'm saying is goalies are an utter crap shoot. The overreaction by some people is hysterical.

Parsons really stood out in his half of the game. Luke warm on McDonald, he should have had a couple of those goals.
Tkachuk impressed again. He looks like an NHLer out there and I stick by my prediction he sticks on the big club without issue.
Jankowski looked like a poised veteran again.
Lots to like out there even if it was a bit of river hockey.

Little disingenuous with the stats there. He dropped .001 but played 40 more games. That .906 SP put him easily tops in the Q that season for goalies who played any significant amount of games. Last season was certainly disappointing but he was still top ten in save percentage for goalies who played 20 games or more.

Fair enough. But his performance at all the major tournaments he has played in has never stood out to me. If today was the only game I had seen him play then your point is completely valid. I agree that he may still get better, but up to this point, he has never showed the qualities of an NHL caliber goaltender

If this is your argument you should back away right now. 2014-2015 was a much better season than his draft year. He played 40 more games, 3000 more minutes, and his goals against average dropped.
If you're claiming he's fallen along way because his save percentage went from .907 to .906... well, you should sign out right now.

Gotta say, Matthew Tkachuk is everything Corey Perry is.
1. Stir things up and get under the skin of the opposing team.
2. Act all innocent when they try to retaliate back.

Not accurate.
His SV% including playoffs has been:
2013-14 - 0.894
2014-15 - 0.905
2015-16 - 0.902 (including a 0.922 over 6 games to get them to the second round)
Yes he took a step back last year. And if he struggles this year over a LARGE SAMPLE SIZE it might be time to write him off.
But we've all seen great, veteran goalies look terrible in their first game back after a four month hiatus. This is the last game to be judging him on. Judge him on how he does this year in the ECHL, good or bad. That applies to the guy at the other end who stood on his head, Wells, too. Is he suddenly a top prospect?
And I can't be the only one who remembers him having a pretty strong game to keep them in it against the Oilers a year ago, can I?

Which major tournaments would those be?
The 2014 U18s where he had a .930 over 6 games?
The 2016 U20s where he played two games, had a 2.52 GA and was STILL better than 0.921 in OHL Mackenzie Blackwood (clearly there were system issues with Team Canada under Lowry with all the goals bouncing off skates and screens)? How was Jon Gillies at the U20s?

Jon Gillies also has fairly poor numbers at some major tournaments he's played in such as when he was the starting goalie for the USA at the world juniors. He still looks to be a promising prospect.
McDonald is only 20, he still has lots of time to figure it out, but I agree in the few times I've seen him play, he's let in some very underwhelming goals.

He's had terrible numbers everywhere though. At some point you have to have good numbers to be good, no?

McDonald did not have great numbers like Parsons did and at this point is probably already the worse prospect, but these numbers are still highly dependant on where the shots are coming from:
On the left is a .902 goaltender, on the right is a .919 goaltender. Same league.
Basically on the same locations of shots, they have roughly the same percentages. But one guy faced many many more medium / high danger shots while the other faced many more low danger shots. Is the latter a better goaltender?

Just came back from the game, and yes Falkovsky was the best defenceman IMO. There was a few plays in the 3rd where he showed the finesse of a much smaller player. He reminds me of a more mobile Chara.
Lombard showed a lot pf spunk. Whether that translates into anything more than an AHL spot remains to be seen. Culkin did not look particularly good. Anderssen breaking up the 3-1 was a thing of beauty.
There was a play where Jankowski was hit on the chin and completely lost it against the referee for missing the call. He seems a lot like Colborne, seeing him blow up was a good thing. We need to see more emotions from him.
What else can be said about Tkachuk?? Despite his undiscipled penalties, he got under the Oilers skin so badly he drew 3-4 straight penalties just because of who he was. He will learn quickly the line in the NHL as he wont be playing if hes a liability. Not worried about him in the slightest and great to have such a player.
Parsons was good aside from that braincramp. Macdonald seems like a lost cause at the moment. He needs to pick it up or he may never even make it to the AHL, let alone the NHL.

Kinda wish we didn't let Colborne go.
Great 3rd liner that can play up, and a shootout specialist. Was finally starting to find his groove.
