Stars @ Flames
I think it's time for everyone to sit back, relax, crack open another beer and try to enjoy the third period.

I agree.
When he played two seasons ago on an emergency basis, people thinks he will become a goal scoring machine and the fans expectations was so high. Suddenly the kid struggled and people are asking him to be demoted or even benching. Give the kid a break...he is struggling a bit and I am sure one of these days his confidence will come back and starts scoring again. Even players like Stamkos, Thornton and others struggled in their early season.

Coddled? There's a lot of players I'd put on the coddled list before 47.

Okay, can't get the game here but when I look at the stats sheet, I see Backlund has only played 8 shifts, has 4 hits, 2 blocked shots, 4-1 on faceoffs. Colbourne has 17 shifts, 3 hits, 1 blocked shot, 1 takeaway, 1 giveaway. 4-11 in the faceoff circle. Neither have a shot on goal but Backlund doesn't have the cream of the crop for linemates either. How did Colbourne win Backlund's spot again?

He was playing just fine until his first bull#### benching ... so no.

Nope. Don't buy it. Not fair. Colborne needs to be better as well and that's never going to happen because he doesn't have the hands. Sven again is getting the shaft here.
Regardless, my money is on Sven overall.

Sven was playing very well at the start of the season, then fails to put up points in a few games, and gets benched.
It was never a lack of effort that caused him to dry up offensively. He had a lot of bad luck.
Now the benchings have just made things worse by killing his confidence. I know a lot of you are saying "he's in the NHL... man up". That's just not how hockey works. Even the best goal scorer have confidence issues. Remember when Iggy didn't score in 7 straight games the last time he scored 50 goals? You fight the puck... nothing seems to go right. The last thing you need is a coach breathing down your neck and threatening to bench you.

Obviously you are not watching the same game. Baertschi is creating more opportunities than most of the Flames. He just needs to realize that he has more scoring ability than most of his teammates.

i don't understand the fear to bench a kid after x number of games of poor play. coddling players becuase of where they were drafted doesn't get you positive development, just look at the oilers young guns.
Kadri was treated like a big boy by burke and the leafs since being drafted, and the kid manned up and did what he needed to, to get his game where it is today.
anyways... this has gotta be pay back for all the jeering and giggling done for the oilers and mact today.

The point is Sven may benefit from time in the AHL....get tons of ice time, maybe some winning and some confidence. its not always a bad thing to go down to the A

Kadri never got his opportunity until Burke left, so this really can't be used as an example.
For all we know, this could be why Burke was fired.

Life's not fair . They don't want Sven to play like how he is. They expect him to be elite. Thus the different standards

Well there is an actual well-functioning team where Bärtschi could find his confidence again. But we can't put him through the humiliation of sending him down because Jackman exists.

I really HATE the notion of benching Sven or sending him down. Let him play, let him make his mistakes and grow as an NHL player.
