Skip Stratosphere, check out Downtown Vegas one night.
I heard that if you go to the Gun Store and then to the airport right after they might stop you from at security because of gun powder residue. Not sure if that is BS though.
I've had that happen in Calgary after shooting a few rounds before going to the airport. So it is possible.
Critique my Vegas plan. My wife and I are going with some friends this weekend. Staying at Aria.
So far, the critical information that I've garnered from this thread is a) take a cab to Vons upon arrival, and, b) use the $20 trick upon check-in.

All this plan is missing is a fanny pack, a stopwatch, an Elvis T-shirt neatly tucked into your Dockers, one of those short bus style tour busses and a nutritious neatly packed lunch.
The best way to do Vegas is a duffel bag with 4 changes of underwear and one change of clothes, about a grand in cash, and no plan whatsoever. The last time I went down, I didn't even book a Hotel. I will however take a near empty suitcase so I can load one up with clothes from the ridiculously cheap outlet mall for the trip back.
There is seriously so much to do there, having a plan is dumb. If you pre-book anything, you are overpaying. Last minute anything in Vegas is cheaper. I have stayed at The Wynn for $99 a night with a good story, and a $20 handshake.

This is what I plan on doing this weekend. I am going with my wife and some friends. I told her last night she could bring one backpack. We'll buy clothes for whatever we need there and a suitcase in the outlet mall to bring things home if needed. She's all in as it's a great shopping excuse for her to update her wardrobe!

Yeah, this is awesome advice...for people not going with their significant others. Try running this type of advice past your wife/girlfriend, especially if they've never been, and see how well it goes.

This is where my wife gains major points in awesomeness.
Wake up in the morning she says she wants to go shopping and I should go find something to do because she doesn't me tagging along.

Stayed there last month and I didn't notice anything being renoed. Are you referring to the spot by margaritaville? It's a margaritaville casino now.
So do they still have the Maragritaville bar, or has that all been removed?
Anyway, we are going with a bunch of relatives at Christmas, and we will have our Boston Terrier with us. We usually bring him every time we go, and it's not a problem. I just found out that Clark County has put a ban on pets on the strip, between noon and 5 am every day. So, basically we will only be able to take him out in the morning. That sucks.

Good.
Why do you take your dog, do you usually get a little Pan Handling in while you are there? Sounds lile a real pain in the butt to me. Where do you find grass so he can do his business?

Myself and my fiancée were there last week. The week before (and maybe the week we were there too) the Hangover III was being filmed. As we were exiting the Forum Shoppes (exit next to the spiral escalator) there was a crowd outside looking at one of those people that dress up and you take pictures with them. This guy was dressed exactly like Zach Galafanakis and he was taking pictures with people. Normally they don't have a security guard close to these people and I'm pretty sure it was actually him. This seems like something he'd do. I heard him talk and it sounded like him too. He was also wearing the same clothes that he was pictured in while filming...

LOL - no, believe me, I don't have to panhandle. Anyway, we aren't flying to Vegas, we are driving from Phoenix. We can't leave our dog at home for 3 days and there is no way my wife will leave it in a pet boarding place. So, we only go where we can take our dog. The hotels are all pet friendly, and they have outdoor dog areas, where they can do their business. The ban was put into effect because a panhandler's dog bit a tourist. They are trying to keep the panhandler's dogs off the street, not so much the tourist's dogs. There are a lot of tourists who are quite upset with the pet ban.
Does anyone know if the Flamingo is still under renovation?
The Flamingo is not under renovation right now, but the imperial palace, old O'sheas and surrounding areas are. Near the end of December the Imperial Palace will have its name changed to "The Quad" in some marketers attempt to appeal to the drunken college crowd that currently inhabits the place. It is having its casino and other public areas renovated right now, but the rooms are being left untouched at this time.
The rest of the area is being updated under the Linq project, which will also include one of the 2 giant ferris wheels being constructed on the strip when it is finally completed. I think the ferris wheel is supposed to be finished late next year.

I was there during the week of Halloween. I saw that guy, and I'm pretty sure it was really Zack G too.
I saw them filming scenes for a moving, which I suspect is for Hangover 3, but it could also be for Lost Vegas (a grumpier old men meets Hangover type movie). At any rate, after 8pm they shut down the strip every half hour for about 10 minutes from Planet Hollywood down to Caesar's. You could walk on the sidewalks, but not cross the street. A guy dressed like Elvis would parachute from a helicopter come over the Bellagio fountains and get sprayed by them. Then he would land on the road. A couple minutes later two more parachuters would come down, the 2nd was a camera man and he was closely following the first one who would also get sprayed by the fountain, they would land on the road, and they would all get taken away by a car waiting in the alley between Bally's an Paris. During this they had blocked off the largest fountain observation point on the strip. They had some extras watching the fountains and a camera crew filming the extras just watching the fountains until the parachuters came down.
The next night a guy would parachute down and land somewhere between the Caesar's towers. They had a camera crew setup on the overpass between Bellgio and Caesar's. The parachuter looked like he was going to crash into the Caesar's tower.

That guy was there 3 weeks ago when we were there in the same spot. He's an imposter.

Name change really doesn't surprise me. O'Sheas already had beer pong tables set up in the middle of their casino.
