Keep in mind that by this time, more than a year after launch, the stores have their kanban systems set up. They are only taking delivery because they have sold through the equivalent number. They aren't stockpiling consoles in the back room.

Maybe not the thread for it but seeing as the conversation started here:

We're going to remove the payment feature from the Skyrim workshop. For anyone who spent money on a mod, we'll be refunding you the complete amount. We talked to the team at Bethesda and they agree.
We've done this because it's clear we didn't understand exactly what we were doing.

Shocked they caved, but I am glad they seem to understand why it wasn't working.

Yeah, it was doomed to fail. A developer shouldn't take money for content they can't guarantee will work after an update, or conflicts with another mod. And they definitely shouldn't be taking the vast majority of the money when they didn't do the work.
I prefer to see people donate to modders they like. The guy who used to work for Maxis who's doing Cities Skylines buildings has a pretty decent Patreon account.

The man who fought Microsoft’s first “console war” says it looks like his former company lost the most recent battle to arch rival Sony.
Ed Fries, who led the team that created the first Xbox in 2001, said things seem to be slowing down in this installment of the high-stakes sales battle between the Xbox and PlayStation franchises.
And the winner is: “I think it’s PS4 by a nose,” he said.
But the way things stand now, Fries said Microsoft doesn’t look like it will quite be able to close the gap after his former company bobbled the Xbox One launch in November 2013.

I think they will both be successful consoles. Still not enough must have games for either. I'm content playing Fifa and GTA V on the xbox one. I have high hopes for the new Halo.
I'm also old with responsibilities so I don't just get to play any game anymore. It has to be one that grabs my interest.

They already both are.
What will really make the difference to people who own them is what each console will be capable of moving forward. The PS4 is still, by all accounts, just a better PS3. A much better PS3, but that's all it is. And if absolutely all you care about is gaming, that works.

And now that every supposed unique advantage of the Xbox One has proven to be niche (Kinect) or meaningless (the Cloud!), it's just a better Xbox 360. All on even ground.

Except they aren't. You could make a case for it if everything stopped today, sure. But that's not the case, and Windows 10 will add a ton of capability to the machine. Sony doesn't have that, because they don't have a platform and a services ecosystem to build around.
Again, the PS4 is a fine gaming machine. But that's all it is, and all it ever wanted to be. And if that aligns with what you want out of it, then you're golden.

There is a lot to offer on the xbox besides kinect. The apps are actually really usefull and it serves really well as a media hub to run your cable and gaming through. I actually really like the features of the xbox one even though I was critical of how well it would integrate. PS4 is just a gaming console and is fine but I think my xbox one is my 'go to' machine.

Once windows 10 releases it could be a game changer. Gaming against/with PC and the tablet crowd on the xbox one will be amazing if done right.

Yep. It's amazing to me how much I use the functions I was convinced were a waste of time to even develop. I use the voice commands constantly to move between games/tv/apps. Use the snap command all the time (watch a game I have a passing interest in in the top right corner while playing a game, or to see when intermission is over etc).

so the EA access for xbox one has proven awesome, it's absolutely perfect for a guy like me who primarily only buys one or two sports game a year, but enjoys most sports titles. Getting NHL on release date (though how terrible that game is, is a separate topic in itself), and then getting the year's madden, fifa, nba games slightly later in the year but for free has been awesome.

Would have been an instant subscription for me but Sony's pretence of wanting to decide for its player base is just disappointing.

My girlfriend doesn't even use the controller anymore, she uses SmartGlass on her phone to open up Netflix and control the console that way, or the SmartGlass OneGuide to get TV listings.

Xbone wins April NPD. Surprisingly apparently according to the title.
http://www.engadget.com/2015/05/14/x...e-outsold-ps4/
I say it's surprising because there wasn't an exclusive game that launched for the system, nor was there a new bundle deal going at the time, either. Regardless, it's good news and something that Redmond hasn't seen in an awfully long time.

We seem to be seeing about equal sales of late. I'd guess this is because the gamers who are PS4 owners have now saved up enough money again for a Xbox One and vice versa.
I still find that the microsoft experience is the superior experience...for me. Might not be the same for everyone.

In case anybody is getting the Witcher on consoles (Day One patch effects on the Xbone - article is also updated with the PS4 at the bottom):
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/di...-day-one-patch
After a weekend of testing The Witcher 3 on Xbox One, it's fair to say installing its day one patch (version 1.01) is something of a double-edged sword. On the one hand, the 588MB file improves frame-rates slightly during play, while fixing minor bugs scattered across the game. In many ways it's a more polished experience with the patch - notably we have less geometry pop-in during cut-scenes, fewer instances of flickering shadows, and a great many more tweaks elsewhere.
But the downsides pack a punch too. It's apparent after switching between the game's default and patched states that these improvements come at a cost. Chief among these is the aggressive stuttering during pre-rendered cut-scenes.
Encoded video files stutter horribly after patch 1.01 is installed, with drops to as low as 22fps causing the playback to lurch in a manner that's impossible to ignore during any action. We've tested this several times with and without the update, and in every case an unpatched build of The Witcher 3 delivers a much smoother return, even if it's not perfectly locked at the intended 30fps.
Indeed, even with the patch removed, these videos still stutter owing to frame-pacing issues. However, the choppy playback on patch 1.01 is a greater evil overall
Xbox One's dynamic resolution scaling may also help to uphold this level of performance - in effect before and after the patch. In theory, this allows the framebuffer to switch between a 1600x900 resolution to a native 1920x1080 on the fly, seemingly based on GPU load at any given point. However, in practice this doesn't switch as much as we'd expected - The Witcher 3 is predominantly a 900p game, and the only scenes we've found to run at a full 1080p are the in-engine rendered title screen, and the video cut-scenes. Even reducing the GPU load by looking directly up to the sky shows the game is still rendering at a native 900p. We do notice some indoors scenes rendering at what seems to be a higher resolution than 900p, but even here, it is clearly not a full, native 1080p output.
UPDATE 19/5/15 14:03: We've now had the opportunity to test the 1.01 patch on PlayStation 4, and can report that the FMV stuttering issue introduced in the Xbox One day one patch is much less of an issue on the Sony platform - video playback is much more consistent. Engine visual settings appear to be a match between the two consoles but curiously, the PS4 version does appear to run with a capped 30fps, giving a more consistent update than its Xbox One counterpart. We can also confirm native 1080p resolution throughout.
