Price and Gallagher for Draisaitl and Talbot. Both teams suck when they "shouldn't be." Might as well go big.
Oilers get a right handed right winger trigger man that has proven he can score goals if nothing else, instead of banking on their next great hope in Puljujarvi. Of course they significantly upgrade their goalie to the best in the league if he recaptures his game. This actually opens up the possibility of a scary team with arguably the best center and best goalie in the world for a bit if everything goes their way.
Canadiens get the potential one-two punch of Drouin and Draisaitl and get to build around the 22 year old centers. Talbot provides some relief in losing Price and can go full out rebuild as a rental next year if they wanted.
Both move out high valued contracts that are roughly even.

This is an awful trade for the Oilers. It is Chia though so it might work but then again it is Bergevin don’t probably won’t.

I saw Eklund mentionn he could see the Flyers trading Simmonds who has one more year on his deal. Eklund has had connections to the Flyers in the past but still grain of salt.
Would that be a player people would move Bennett (+) to get? Maybe he is a little bit too old to keep long term on a 5-6 year extension.

Bennett and a first? I would be up for that if there was any sort of extension talk with simmonds ahead of time. Or maybe bennett and a second, upgrades to first if he extends

Montreal has been trying to run Plekanec out of town for what seems like forever and I really don't understand why. Sure he makes a few million more than he should, but he's still a solid hockey player. Let's take advantage:
Stajan
+
Plekanec
What does the + have to be? Calgary can afford the salary difference but it could affect next year's cap because Jagr's bonuses might not have room to fit after.
I was thinking Lazar+Poirier as the +, maybe with a little retention from Montreal's side just to make life a little easier. Having Plekanec would really improve the 4th line I think.

I was one of the posters standing up early on for Lazar saying we needed to at least see him play out a good chunk of games to get a feel but the more I see him the more I see a player that skates hard and that's about it. Hands of stone, low hockey IQ especially in the Ozone... I'm looking at what Hathaway is doing in the A and I'm thinking last night about what Benn did to Johnny and I think to myself we don't need so much of a trade to reinvigorate the 4th line more than we just need to make a call on Hathaway who had a pretty stellar showing in his stints with the Flames last year.
Send F. Hamilton down, send Stajan down or find a suitor who would take him at 50% retained and call up Hathaway.
Gaudreau ~ Monahan ~ Ferland
Tkachuk ~ Backlund ~ Frolik
Bennett ~ Jankowski ~ Jagr
Versteeg ~ Brouwer ~ Hathaway
Lazar
I still feel that Versteeg is redundant now too considering that he was originally signed to be a skilled guy and he is far too small to play a 4th line game. His play on the 5-4 goal last night was despicable and he really hasn't helped drive the PP even though 5 of his 8 points are by way of the PP. If there was a way to move on from him as well I'd be all over it as I feel internally we have answers for that 4th line in Mangiapane and Hathaway who are appearing more and more hungry to receive the call.

I don’t believe that Montreal sees a 6M Plekanec as an asset either.
Stajan is there for a salary dump, Lazar is some youth Bergevin can sell to the fans, and Poirier is there because French. It’s crap for crap, but I personally don’t think Plekanec is crap.

Underrated speed? Lol. He was a good defenceman for sure, but speed was definitely not a bright spot for him ha ha. Very physical and great positionally.

I disagree. Regehr was very fast skating backwards in his prime. It's what allowed him to take wingers into his Tunnel of Death.

I remember watching him outskate gaborik in 2006 as gaborik was flying the d zone on a potential break. Regehr was skating with at the time maybe the deadliest straight forward skater in the league and he was doing it backwards.

Yeah Regehr never really struck me as slow until the couple years leading up to the trade.

Regehr had excellent footwork which helped make up for perhaps not great pure speed.

I wonder how much pain Regehr played through after that horrible car accident.
He struck me as a tough, tough person. I suspect a lot would have quit
