How about the ERA and WHIP?
I don’t if the first thing he did upon being traded to the Jays was to kick your dog or something but you seem to enjoy watching him struggle. It helps you feed your schtick.

On a more positive note, Varland pitching the way Varland looked like he was going too. I am beyond happy with that.

I really don't like watching it. It frustrates me to no end. And I will call myself out and give him his plaudits when he is doing well consistently (three years ago as an example). But outside of that he has not looked good on a consistent basis. That it is the same thing every year, more often than not, I wish the team would look for someone else which I admit is much easier said than done.

He's get an average WAR of slightly above 2 but is below 2 if you only include full seasons with the Jays.
You guys sound like Mid 2000s Canucks fans arguing Cloutier is a fine starter because he wins 30 games a year and only elite goalies do that every season.
Both the eye test and the underlying metrics back that up. His one trait is that he can pitch a lot without needing much rest.

His WAR is right around 2.5 for the last 3 years
Not sure why you are going back to his disasterous year with the Jays 4 seasons ago
Everyone would agree that was a horrible season

…until he has a bad outing and you’ll be racing to the forum to bury him and call to ship him back to the Twins.

I've been pretty consistently only on Berrios and that's essentially since day one since I felt the price paid was too much, though I was very wrong about that in hindsight.

Why would I include all his years to get an idea of what type of pitcher he is? Even if I take that season out he's still only at 1.9 WAR/a on Fan Graphs.

Dominguez’ stuff is so tantalizing but the prospect of him closing games for a playoff team is a very scary one.
Yimi going from an IL stint for a sprained ankle for a slip in the hot tub to needing elbow surgery is one of those mysteries that ultimately really, really hurt the team. Despite not closing games, he is a foundational piece to this bullpen. His seemingly likely return also may have stopped Atkins from further buttressing the pen at the deadline.

It’s a good distraction for the bottom half of the innings

I don't know, very few of those stats show actual results.
He's not a guy that's going to overpower you with elite stuff or a 97 MPH fastball, so he's not going to show up great on some of those stats.
But he seems to know how to manage his way through 6 innings and can do it on a consistent basis and eat up innings.
I don't think anybody is saying he's elite, but he's better than how you talk about him.
Ideally he's a 3-4 in a good team, which is what he is right now
