ohhhh, a sexy AM next to a money pit. :P

I ran into an acquaintance who just picked up an 04 RR, wanted to know what I thought it would cost to get the air ride working again. He'll probably be dumping it after our conversation.

Everything works on it (08 Range Rover Sport S/C), including the air suspension; I ran my diagnostic computer on it to check for compressor temps and line pressures, and wheel height sensor issues and the car has a clean bill of health where the engine, trans, suspension, and electronic systems are concerned. I have a set of outer tie-rods going in (seller included in the sale) and I replaced the sunroof seal myself after an impromptu shower at an automatic car wash, and that's it. It was a diamond in the rough; again, paid wholesale because Kijiji is full of crapbags and teenagers who just want to rev the engine.

An 04 RR is scarier because of the BMW 4.4L V8. And the later 5.0L V8 engines with their plastic timing chain guides are also prone to failure.

A few people must unfortunately fall for it but the best thing is to have the Carfax report listed with your vehicle and as soon as the person mentions another report refer them to the Carfax and if that's not good enough, ghost them and move on. It's just the unfortunate part of selling a vehicle in this day and age.

My vehicle demographic makes reports pointless. This one was a mechanic special I picked up and threw a boatload of new parts into, none of which would show on a report. I can pull a report from SGI to show claim status (sk car its whole life, no claims).

Honestly I think it's up to the buyer to do some of that legwork. Whatever you need to be happy, run a vin check, lien check, take it to your mechanic. As a buyer I would want to handle that stuff anyway.

Listed it...let the ad fall off the page...

Would find it again a few years later and revive it...

Finally sold it just before the pandemic..

Nice having my parking pad back again.

I only communicate through Kijiji...

That way I can block people if they get too annoying.

Need rear brakes, $300 a rotor from GM.. When I had my VW I was able to get cross drilled slotted rotors for less than half the OEM ones.

What's a good brand these days? Coated seems like a good thing in our climate?

So this showed up on my social media feed. I love mustangs, but did not think you could drop $175k on one right from the mind of Shelby - but maybe given the way prices of stuff are increasing, perhaps I should not be surprised

That's insane. Plus I'm surprised it's automatic.

IIRC, they only made the GT500s with a dual-clutch transmission, no manual option. The GT350 / GT350R could be had with a stick.

What vehicle? Have you tried just punching the part number into a search engine and seeing what the OE alternatives are, or checking RockAuto?

Highly likely there are multiple grades of AC Delco rotors that could make that much cheaper. Check Amazon for GM parts, they are surprisingly cheap with various options for coating ect.

This is correct. The GT500 is quite an animal and some dealers are asking above sticker but it's slightly underwhelming when you consider the premium to the GT350/350R. Ford has stopped making those though, and the Mach 1 is the next best in the line.

Yeah there's too many alternatives, I have no idea what's good and what's crap

It's a 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe, so a little sporty but it's not like I'm taking it to the track or anything.

I did find this which is local and is 1/3 the price of the dealership: https://www.jackcartergmpartsdepot.c.../19389815.html

AC Delco is an ok brand? I'll check those out.

I ran the PN through RockAuto and you're spoiled for choice:

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...hub,rotor,1896

You don't need to even spend $100 each to get the proper rotors (fully coated would be my starting point, personally), and frankly I wouldn't be putting drilled and/or slotted rotors on the rear if your fronts aren't already equipped as such -- and even then, eh. Majority of your brakeforce is on the fronts, so they will benefit most from the extra heat dissipation if you drive it like a hooligan. For a normally driven car, all slotted rotors will do for the rear is reduce brake pad life.

I'm probably half hooligan

Ok thanks, yeah coated seems like a good idea and I agree on the drilled/slotted. And now I think I know the proper ones to get (i.e. there's different sizes in the linked list but I think I know which size mine are now).

Appreciate the help!

If you know what you want, I'm always a fan of buying locally from NAPA or something, so when you inevitably get the wrong one, you can swap it the same day. I'm looking at you, Chevy wheel bearings that were incorrectly listed. My friend ended up getting screwed when they got the wrong ones for his wife's vehicle, who was not all that impressed about the delay!

If you get fully coated rotors make sure you get pads that are compatible. Full coated aka elemental coating will have the material gall up on some pads and your brakes will never bed in properly.

example

That said can't go wrong with Centric pad/rotor combo.

So I had to switch out of my demo at work (VW Crossport), and needed something with snow tires.

I grab the keys to a 2019 Volvo V60 T6 Wagon, and found a new favorite car.

All the power you'd ever want. Incredible interior. Amazing in snow. And a digital cockpit that is so well designed, I could actually live with it. It's basically a giant iPhone in the center of the dash, and everything is so intuitive on it. The most intuitive I've ever seen in fact. Large icons, minimal swipes, easy to find menus. In 5 minutes I had the car set to my liking without an owners manual or any internet searching. Oh... and those sweet Swedish seats. Nobody does seats like Volvo does, and Saab did.

When the time comes to replace my wifes car, it's definitely on the list. The V60 recharge looks like it would be an absolute beast on the highway. But an awesome grocery getter at the same time as you could just drive it in all electric.

It takes a lot for a car to impress me like this one did. But then again, I always have a soft spot for a cool wagon.
