His problem is/was entirely in his head. I think what he needs is simply some decent results. All about confidence. He really hasn't had that yet, even in his rehab.

I actually disagree. It’s been pretty clear that he has struggled all season with his follow through which likely came from a deficiency in his delivery. The pitching lab likely gave him a cue to allow him to self correct when things go bad which he hasn’t had. His confidence fell because the results were poor but also because he didn’t know what was wrong or how to fix it.

Hopefully the cues that the lab gave him work and he can get back to the old Manoah…or even a reasonable facsimile.

When Manoah and Ryu are back, I expect that they’ll go with a six man rotation. Ryu has always been better with extra rest as is Gausman. After going with a four man rotation, I think everyone would be better served with an extra day’s rest.

Hopefully they found a legit fix for whatever his problem was and he turns into 2021/22 Manoah. Can't think of a better mid season acquisition than a stud top of the rotation starter that we didn't have to give up any prospect capital to acquire.

Imagine:

1. Manoah returns to form, ~4 fWAR pace for the second half
2. Ryu comes back and is actually good, replaces Kikuchi in the rotation
3. Kikuchi goes into the pen and does what he did last season, 2nd stud lefty reliever along with Mayza
4. Green comes back and is his usual stud reliever self, solidifying the 7-8-9th inning shut down crew

Ryu and Manoah would have to be more than just good to bump the Kooch out of the rotation. I think the 6 man rotation is much more likely for reasons already stated. That being said, if both Ryu and Manoah do manage to pitch lights out then that would be massive.
