I don't think it's arrogance. I think he doesn't care about what he says to the media because he doesn't think it's a part of his job. Or at least an important one.

Part of that failing is he doesn't realize that the media, in some ways, represents the fans. So when he's speaking to the media, he's speaking to fans.

We average one new coach every two years since Sutter’s last run as coach as we’re going to pretend the players have ever been seen as the problem? Let alone “always”?

Fans and media in this city suck. Sutter is living proof that you could put a hall of fame coach behind the bench and they’d still blame him instead of the players. I would rather give Sutter the GM reigns than see him go.

The players never seem to be the problem here. It’s always the coach.

Honestly, cruising through this thread and catching the initial reaction to the Sutter video, then jumping forward a couple pages and STILL seeing people upset about it… I thought the worst. Needless to say, having watched it, I think people are just keen to be upset over something. And honestly? After a loss it’s annoying enough. But some of you guys can’t even hold it together after a win? Now PGT threads after a win are going to be unreadable too? Awesome. Thanks for that.

Why even bother coming here to celebrate what I thought was a great game, a terrific comeback, awesome goaltending and a somewhat tender and inauspicious - albeit mistake-free - start for a rookie we wanted to see in the lineup.

The word "toxic" needs to be banned for stupidity and idiotic usage.

This place after a good win: "toxic".

It was a great win. Might have been their best win of the season. Nobody forced Darryl to make that comment and, ultimately, become the story (and very much not just on this site).

And the comment about players always being the problem was intended more as a direct counter to the comments I've seen about Huberdeau being a bust, etc. More broadly, under Treliving, the team has been far more active about making coaching changes than swapping out coaches — although that's also a consequence of going bargain bin shopping for coaches in the past.

Darryl has a lot to work with and the expectations are sky high, maybe the highest they've been since 2005–06. The results have been thoroughly underwhelming, an excellent win against TB notwithstanding. And I think, generally, people are wearing thin of his shtick and the insistence that he's above criticism, particularly when compared to his players. Which is what I was getting at.
