They can't get insurance because of all the abuse they have inflicted on the vulnerable brain washed masses, AND don't feel it is safe to continue operating without insurance...but why should it be a concern if they aren't still abusing childr...oh...
But I'm sure this is just one bad apple.
Oh man Fuzz, you’re lucky Cliff’s monthly backhanded commentary about the moderation here goes largely ignored, or else you’d surely be banned for life on account of this vicious hate speech.
Pointing out abuse scandals is basically as bad as doing a nasty racism. Very bad hate speech Fuzz. Very nasty of you!

Can you imagine what the premiums for a library with a drag queen reading must be?

With the history of abuse going back decades, ya, man, I don't even understand how they could hold any events. Plus being in a library they might be exposed to readings outside the "fiction" section, and that could also harm young developing minds. Best to limit them to stories about Noah.

How do you even get to this point?
Every church I've been part of has policies in place to prevent abuse - and take them seriously, and the policies are constantly being reviewed - my church just recently modified our policies to expand who had the get vulnerable sector police checks.
Also, I have no desire to go to a church where the pastor thinks tattooing the reference to a verse in Leviticus saying they shouldn't tattoo is edgy/ cool/whatever. (not a comment on tattooing, which is not the practice being referred to in Leviticus 19).

If you have to ask, I think you've missed the last 1600 years of history, but I'm happy to answer the question.
Religious institution generally teach that morality is absolute, something is moral because a powerful deity said that it's moral. Then by becoming a representative of said deity people believe they as well as their peers have an endorsement from the deity as moral actors. Since they intuitively know that they are moral actors, they also know that the actions they take cannot be inherently amoral, so they have a constructed social license to dismiss the obviously amoral things they and their friends do as small mistakes made by a good person. While persecuting people for what are far less obvious amoralities, because they don't have the self professed endorsement of the deity.
I still don't understand why God Lovers need churches AND schools. I wonder what other public works they need? Catholic arenas where they can play Catholic hockey? I suppose the ice would be frozen holy water. Penalty boxes with bibles. Face off crosses instead of dots. No female officials.
An 8-year-old girl with type-1 diabetes, requiring insulin shots is dead because her parents, 12 other Christians and members of their church refused to give the poor child the insulin shots she needed because god is all-knowing, all-powerful and loves all of us so very, very much. And since the little girl ended up dying, it was always part of god's plan. That's how they do it, right? Gross.
A fellow was stuck on his rooftop in a flood. He was praying to God for help.
Soon a man in a rowboat came by and the fellow shouted to the man on the roof, “Jump in, I can save you.”
The stranded fellow shouted back, “No, it’s OK, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me.”
So the rowboat went on.
Then a motorboat came by. “The fellow in the motorboat shouted, “Jump in, I can save you.”
To this the stranded man said, “No thanks, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith.”
So the motorboat went on.
Then a helicopter came by and the pilot shouted down, “Grab this rope and I will lift you to safety.”
To this the stranded man again replied, “No thanks, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith.”
So the helicopter reluctantly flew away.
Soon the water rose above the rooftop and the man drowned. He went to Heaven. He finally got his chance to discuss this whole situation with God, at which point he exclaimed, “I had faith in you but you didn’t save me, you let me drown. I don’t understand why!”
To this God replied, “I sent you a rowboat and a motorboat and a helicopter, what more did you expect?”

Come on, this thread isn't about how religion is actually OK and it's just peoples misinterpretations that are bad, this thread is about how religion itself often push people to do bad things, even with it's proper interpretation.

I think thats the issue.
Its about 'Interpretation.'
One can look at almost any Religious text and find value and good sense, but also things that make no sense at all.
For instance, in this case medical assistance was denied because it didn't fall in line with antiquated belief systems.
If Jesus came back tomorrow and refused (for whatever reason) to 'miracle' her better I imagine he'd be cool with insulin. It just wasn't around during his ministering sessions so he just never mentioned it.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
No that I have searched very hard but I read a story a month or so back that stated 40 church pastors own over a $140M in luxury beach front properties in California. This does not include their mega mansions they call home. Absolutely insane to me that anyone would willfully follow people like this. I would imagine that over half of the combined congregations live far below the poverty line.
More and more the church just seems to be a way to wield power and control over people. The early message is long gone.

This is something different though.
I wouldn't classify those as 'The Church' as I dont believe they are associated with the Vatican.
I'm not sure about the regulations of US Mega-Churches or whatever and sure, they're likely just as scummy, the Vatican gets no free passes from me either, I just dont think they can be lumped together as I believe they are unaffiliated and different organizations.
Because I think if they were the Vatican would be all over trying to tap some of that cash every chance they got.
