The other thing I enjoy about this is that the hockey “insiders” that were obviously just using each others’ Twitter posts as sources confirming Kadri to NYI as all but done were obviously wrong.
I don’t think I’m going to be able to resist ordering a blasty jersey with Kadri 91 on it.

Kadri has been a star for exactly one season in the last 5 years. He has been very good defensively, but there will be a massive drop off, if not immediately.
You're not wrong, for sure. It's possible.
But just make sure you're not cheering for the worst case scenario.
Hoping for what I wanted out of the Giordano contract ... 1/3 of it as a star, 1/3 of it as good but not great, and a 1/3 of it that's painful.

In 4-5 years any cash front deals with be valuable. A team like Arizona who won't be able to meet a cap floor will be paying teams for these types of contracts. Roles will be reversed.

I still look at it specifically in terms of the Flames right now, not the Flames 3 years from now.
The Flames got manhandled by McDavid. We had to find a way to fix that. Getting Kadri was the best way to do that. The opportunity was there...and here we go. The team needed to respond to getting stomped by McDavid, and this is some kinda response.
Wait, there are Flames fans in here who are unhappy with this signing?
Wat.

They wanted us to tank for Bedard every though we were never gonna be bad enough to have a chance to land him. Even if we didn’t get Hubby/Weegs in the Tkachuk trade and got picks/prospects instead
You know, I can't help but feel like the Flames should've just jettisoned their core and played wretched, awful hockey for the next 5 - 10 years, securing #1 pick after #1 pick but never advancing too far, hopes built up and then crashing again and again, burning through coaches and GMs like gas-soaked kindling.
It would've been the NORTHERN Alberta way.
Fixed.
