Yeah if I could've asked for any Christmas present from the Flames it was always to bring in a skilled 2C to bump Backlund down so that he can be an elite 3C.

Wish granted. I can't help but be excited rn despite the length of this contract.

Treleving has done an incredible job for you guys this season, should already have locked up GM of the year

To go into the offseason and two star players want our, to be able to navigate that so quickly and pivot to not only trading for Huberdeau but signing him too, then waiting out Kadri and getting him on a deal that looks fair value, which for a Ufa signing is rare. Very impressive.

On top of that improving the defense with weegar. Even if there's a step back with scoring next season (likely would have been anyway as that was peobly Gaudreau and tkachuks peak seasons) the improvement in the top 4 of the defense probably offsets it, and with the depth now, one could be moved for help in season

You know, I can't help but feel like the Flames should've just jettisoned their core and played wretched, awful hockey for the next 5 - 10 years, securing #1 pick after #1 pick but never advancing too far, hopes built up and then crashing again and again, burning through coaches and GMs like gas-soaked kindling.

It would've been the Alberta way.

These moves might guarantee a rebuild in a few years, which a large contingent of posters seem to want. And in the meantime we get to compete for a cup.

How is that not a way better alternative to spinning tires with a roster not bad to rebuild or good enough to compete indefinitely?!

Next season was looking like a season to skip as a fan, but with all the changes it's much watch TV. The Flames window is the next 3 or 4 years before they have to go into a rebuild because of the poorly aging contracts. I don't know if this is a cup winning favourite but it has a chance to pull it off.

I had just agreed to buy a 1/4 season when the Gaudreau and Tkachuk stuff went down and I was pretty sour. Now I'm not.

Great deal for the first 2-4 years (when the Flames need it to be). Okay to problematic deal for years 5 - 7. A good over all UFA deal.

The new template for the JT Miller contract has been created. It is not what JT Miller wanted to see.

@960boomer

Flames were in on Kadri day 1 of free agency but money was high 8’s to 9 on a 7 year deal. Rumoured that the Kadri price has been 7x7 for a while, but Treliving needed cap room. Guess he finally decided it was worth taking a swing.

How can you say we complete for a Stanley cup if we haven't seen the sum of all parts even practice together?

I may not be fan of this specific signing but unfortunately you don't just enter the Stanley Cup Playoffs in August.

The Flames have been projected many years to be front runners at this time of the year and end up missing the PO all together.
