The Yes side has literally millions of dollars in backing here, the No side has some Canadian Tire money most likely. They've even started resorting to robocalls in the last few days. It's going to be an absolutely blitz from the Yes side as the attempt to save this thing.

It would only be fair if the No side has a commercial with a bunch of crusty geriatrics complaining about the good ol' days of extreme penny pinching and how they slogged both ways uphill 10 times a day to and from work.

I don't think having hoards of tourists try to make their way from Calgary to Lethbridge or even Red Deer in the middle of winter is a great plan. The frustrattion would probably drive away any future tourism.

It really won't be in those cities anyways.
Hockey 1 = New Event Centre
Figure Skating & Short Track = Saddledome
Field house = Curling

BidCo. released some concept images of McMahon Stadium during the games:

If it helps anyone decide, everyone in the renders looks really happy to be at the Olympics! :P

Is it really penny pinching to not want to light 1 Billion dollars on fire though? We can all agree with the geriatrics on that one I hope.

Unrelated to Olympics itself even if Calary doesn't host, do you genuinely think that there's going to be apetite to put in +200M to build a new CFL stadium rather than renovate McMahon, at the same time putting in money to a new hockey arena? And if there is, who would contribute financially to it, and what would the venue look like? More like Tim Hortons Field, or like New Mosaic/Investor Field?

Any CFL fan should be extremely happy with the prospect of the Olympics, it's the only way government money is going to be spent on McMahon.

Also of interest, a handful of people who were not in favour of the games look back now and have a different opinion and believe it was worth it.

Those all look like temporary set up for the Olympics. The permanent development is in the foothills athletic park.

The parking lot stuff all looks temporary.... almost looks like small skating rinks with little shelters to put skates on. I am confident that CSSC knows they still need a parking lot for the stamps games.

You think that would change their opinion? It didn't really change most people's opinions. The process itself was the thing that cost the Yes side a lot of votes, not the end result. But contrary to popular opinion, not only old people are voting against this. They're just the biggest, most reliable voting block, and they happen to be primarily against this, hence why the desperation of the Yes side has only intensified the last few days after the early voting looked like an early bird special line.
