Not to argue with you but we're seeing ISIS murder thousands of civillians already, and will continue to do it, we might be seeing the first of them expanding their reach beyond their borders.
So at some point if this was ISIS, I would expect that they're going to increase their operations, this one would be classed by them as a huge success if it is them, or their supporters.
At that point, you have to deal with them, you can't sit back and let them operate.
ISIS is far different then Al Qaeda, they're not a rational group with true strategic aims except for the end of the world. They're not trying to change governments in Europe, they're a zerg like killing death cult.
You have to fight any war against them differently though.

I'm fairly apprehensive posting in this thread after reading everything. I don't think this is the time for knee jerk reactions though. That's what ISIS wants. I don't put much into what Trudeau said or didn't say tonight, as careful deliberations have to take place. Remember George W Bush? Chrétien resisted the war in Iraq.. not saying this is totally similar or what the best plan of action is, but you have to take a deep breath first. The reactionary gunslingers are ultimately the ones that end up stoking the fire.

So he should have said, Canada will deploy its nuclear arsenal, and its full military might to the borders of terrorism town immediately.

So another war now with the french leading. Great. So when does the next terror group emerge as a result of that? This is just a never ending revolving door. I can't say I blame the french for wanting revenge here, but I honestly don't see how a long drawn out ground war does anything good for the world long-term.

US President, "Once again, we've seen an outrageous attempt to terrorize innocent civilians," Obama said. "This is an attack not just on Paris, it's attack not just on the people of France, but this is an attack on all of humanity and the universal values that we share."
Paris itself represents the timeless values of human progress," Obama said. "Those who think they can terrorize the people of France or the values they stand for are wrong. ... The American people draw strength from the French people's commitment to life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness. We are reminded in this time of tragedy that the bonds of#liberté, égalité, fraternité#are not only values that the French people care so deeply about, but are values that we share."#
"This is a heartbreaking situation. Those of us in the United States know what it's like," Obama added. "We've gone through these kind of episodes ourselves."#
A little more powerful and sincere if you ask me.

What was really moving were the acts of kindness displayed by Parisians by opening their homes to strangers who were stranded or distressed from the chaos; and as well, taxi drivers turning off their meters and willing to drive anyone home. Horribly sad day and heroes come in all forms shining courage and dignity through dire times and when the desperate ones are in need of a sign, they appear.

Yet I'm one of many mocking the comments by the anti Trudeau people, so just me give it a rest, or everyone else who thinks you guys are being ridiculous?

I respect you as a poster on CP. You are flying off the handle tonight. Take a step back. No one is attacking you personally. You are reacting poorly to any opinion different than yours.

France leading a war is going to be a much different creature than the U.S. leading a war. Since Vietnam, American politics have hindered and worsened the effect of every conflict they have taken part in. When Hollande says that they will be pitiless, I'm more inclined to believe him.

The thing that annoys me the most is that every time this happens in an open, western society, it makes life a little less open and free for everyone else as security will undoubtedly be tightened up everywhere.

How so? Other than airport security, which hasn't really changed in years, how are you effected at all?

I don't disagree with you.
But what are the (realistic) options? I value privacy a lot, but the world is changing.
It's not Army X vs Army Y anymore. It's cells of fanatics dispersed randomly that inflict damage on civilian populations.
Even if I had a magic wand, I wouldn't know how to handle the situation in the best possible manner.

Seeing various outlets reporting Paris police saying all attackers are believed to be dead.

I understand, and I don't know what the best solution is. I'm not sure that in an open society, however, that it's possible to be everywhere at once all the time. It is a weakness of western societies that gets exploited.
