You could apply this logic to any player picked after the first round.

Pretty big difference
In what world is a 27 year old (going on 28) player with one NHL season under his belt, considered an "established" NHL player? Is that all it takes?

Even worse than the Canucks trading 85 for Dorsett

I wonder if this is more a replacement for Galiardi then Westgarth? Bollig fights, but not in a 5 minute a night enforcer role like Westy.

Nice addition and if it means the end of Westgarth's days wearing the Flaming C it's even better.

When that season involves 10 minutes plus per game for the best or second best roster in hockey and includes a cup ring

(Tongue firmly in cheek)

How is it worse than Dorsett. Higher Salary, Less term, Dorsett was scratched on numerous occasions.

This was a good move. People COMPLAINING about this move is disturbing. You trade away a 3rd round pick for a guy you know is gonna make the NHL cause well... he's in the NHL already !!! The guy dished out over 200 freakin hits this season !! He comes from a winning team, is gonna protect your young guys, make the other team's life miserable- and you complain about all this ??? Give your head a shake.

The Canucks need a player like Dorsett cause they are all a bunch of wussies. The team needs grit and character- something they sorely lack. He is established. They got a key piece for an 85th pick- a pick which never make the NHL. Teams need role players and character players to win. Anyone who knows hockey, knows this.

I hate goons. I think staged fights are an embarrassment to the game. I don't like diluting talent with players that fight better than they play. I don't think they enforce the game in a meaningful way. When they try it usually leads to suspension and unnecessary injury. If you insist on them don't waste assets on them.

That said, when you are filling the team with kids it does make them feel protected. McGrattan is great in the locker room. So keeping a couple of these guys around isn't the end of the world.

I think closer to a Tim Jackman type situation.

He'll be a fan favourite because there's little expectations (both for the team and Bollig himself) and we'll like the playstyle he brings at first but by the end of his contract we'll have people complaining about how he's taking time from the skilled young players. Probably the same players having him on the team helped develop.

Reading your post one would think you're comparing Bollig to Steve MacIntyre...

Bollig is a guy who played ten mins a night on one of the deepest forward rosters in the league. He's not just a goon. He can be an effective fourth liner for us - in addition to being a physical presence / deterrent.

per Scott Cullen, TSN

Pick No. 81-90
Average Rating: 2.16
Best: Sergei Zubov, Milan Hejduk.
Ranked 7 or better: 6.0%
Ranked 5 or worse: 89.0%
At least 100 NHL games (or extremely likely): 24.0%

Is 100 games really "impact"? Dustin Boyd, a late third round pick himself, has 220 games and a whole 30 goals scored....

I think if you really want a number for "Impact Player" take a look at the Ranked 7 or better row. Ranked 7 is a top 6 forward or top 4 defenseman and they are giving it a 6% chance of it happening with an 81-90 pick. Pretty much any other criteria and Bollig himself becomes an impact player anyways.

They showed a couple of goal highlights for him on Sportsnet, and he actually has a nice wrist shot.

If you want to know whether or not a calgary trade was good or not, you can always look for one sure signal: If people are arguing that picks are essentially worthless, we lost the trade.
