Yes. Not every time, but sometimes.

Or you could get a guy like Ryan Howse, Henrik Bjorklund, Nick Larson, John Negrin, John Armstrong, Aaron Marvin, Hugo Carpentier, Gord Baldwin, Dan Ryder, or J.D. Watt in the third or fourth.

You totally could. A 10% chance to get a impact player or Bollig during a rebuild?

How do you know it's 10%, and what exactly is an 'impact' player?

10%?? Based on what? Even 10% for a third rounder seems pie-eyed optimistic.

Actually better than 10% chance of playing 100 gms or more, for what that's worth...

per Scott Cullen, TSN

Pick No. 81-90
Average Rating: 2.16
Best: Sergei Zubov, Milan Hejduk.
Ranked 7 or better: 6.0%
Ranked 5 or worse: 89.0%
At least 100 NHL games (or extremely likely): 24.0%

Love that we got bollig. Might be a bit high of a pick. But he'll be replacing westgarth.

Would you take Bollig over Juha Allen and Martin Sagat?

The argument is silly anyway. Why not trade every pick after the 2nd round for 4th liners then... Not to mention that trade for 27 year old players with less than 200 games have percentage of failure.

I have a 100% chance of going out and buying a $5 sandwich down the street at the greasy spoon, or I can hold onto that $5 and walk down a little further with a 10 percent chance of finding something better. I might fail and be hungrier for longer, but I can still hit the greasy spoon and get a sure thing on the way home.... and at least I tried.

Bollig just seems like low hanging fruit to me. Would love to be proven wrong though, and I have been many times so I am prepared to be again.

And Bollig has played 125 games so far. I guess you could draft a Hejduk or Zubov, but you could totally whiff on the pick as well. Bollig is a known asset, it's a pretty safe play.

Seems silly. Trading picks for pluggers. With our rebuild, we don't have the luxury of a GM 'learning on the job'

It'll be a cold day in hell before I consider Scott Cullen's word as gospel.

Most 3rd rounders dont pan out, this is a pretty safe move.

Most Blackhawks fans I have read are happy they got anything for Bollig.

I would rather have traded a 2nd for Vey than anything for a waiver plugger.

What's silly is taking an argument to the extreme to try to make a point.

No one ever said trade every pick. They traded one pick for a useful player.

And even though it is early in the rebuild, the fact of the matter is that the Flames have a ton of prospects. Remember the prospect-ranking exercise last summer? There were still quality prospects to vote for beyond 20th on the list.

They could afford this and it was a solid pick-up.

I love how so many of the people who dislike this trade have to flat out make things up to make themselves feel better. "waiver plugger"

Bollig isn't an all-star - he's a fourth line grinder - but seriously dude. You should try actually watching the players before inventing reasons to hate them.

I have nothing against Bollig and actually kinda like him.
But during a rebuild when we have similar players like him such as Westgarth, we shouldn't really be trading our draft picks.
