According to Darryl Janz she has been down south in the desert enjoying some R & R. Not sure what she is planning to do next.

Some votes are 8-7, but unlike the previous council it's not the SAME people on either side of an 8-7 vote every time based on ideological lines. Council works in a lot more collegial as well ( even when there are disagreements) - any of the veteran aldermen will tell you that.

I wonder if Sun Media TV has approached Barb.
I don't know enough about her views but I can't help but think that it would be a good fit.

Zak Pashak just tweeted this:
Quote:
Congratulations on deciding to run provincially @aldjohnmar - so you spent $250,000 of others people's money to win a seat you didn't want?
|
Can't find official confirmation of it anywhere yet. However this has long been a rumour that Mar had provincial ambitions (even before the last election).

It would appear so, here is a FFWD article shedding some light on this:

Can anyone here really see Mar "blowing his whole load" of political capital to get into provincial politics?
(I totally can, but just wanted to use his quote in relation to this!)

Do they do a bye-election, and let whichever candidate has more family members turn up be on council, or does the seat stay vacant until the next scheduled municipal election?

John Mar was dynamite as the Smiths' lead guitarist. Kinda wish he'd go back into music.

I used to be in Pashak's corner, but some of his comments on twitter and facebook post election just seemed a little too aggressive and out there for someone that wanted to be in public office. I would probably look for another candidate to put my vote with.

An update on the Secondary Suite issue from the council meeting today.
John Mar put forward a motion to have the whole matter go to a public plebiscite in 2013. This was passed in a vote of 8-5:
For: Gian-Carlo Carra, Andre Chabot, Diane Colley-Urquhart, Peter Demong, Dale Hodges, Shane Keating, Gord Lowe, John Mar (who had the idea)
Against: Naheed Nenshi, Druh Farrell, Gael MacLeod, Brian Pincott, Richard Pootmans
Absent: Ray Jones, Jim Stevenson
This could potentially make the 2013 election the "Secondary Suite" election.

Why did Nenshi come out against this? I would've expected him to be in favor?
Maybe expecting to get something done sooner?

I would think so, wasn't part of his campaign getting secondary suites? now it won't even happen in his term! (of course, he will likely get re-elected anyways)
