We quite often have ribs instead of Turkey. Grandpa said they used to eat that back in Norway when he was a kid, so we do too.

Wow there's a lot of good suggestions here. Thanks for the ideas!

So far I'm thinking the frozen stuffed butterball and the usual fixins, or cornish game hen, deer sausage and some sides, or going the raclette route. Although that would require a raclette (however we've wanted to get one for a while now). I love the ribs idea, but I hate the mess of eating them. The seafood fest is great too, but it'd probably kill my father-in-law.

Yeah, but we're going to my folks for Christmas day, and with my work schedule that was the only time between now and Christmas we would have done it. Also, the original plan was to go to the in laws. She did run it by be before telling them to come over here instead.

Popcorn and toast followed by christmas carols around the worst Christmas tree that you can find.

If you can find a beagle that can dance on two legs without help you have a charlie brown christmas dinner.

My Uncle (RIP) used to BBQ steak for our family's Christmas Eve dinner.

Brings back some of my fondest Christmas memories.
Thanks to the OP who started this thread.

This is an awesome idea but it would never fly.

The biggest pain in the butt with christmas and new years is cleaning up afterwards when all you want to do is lay on the floor and suffer.

We've done both a turducken and a deep-fried turkey in different years. The turducken was fantastic (and the leftovers make topnotch sammiches) but they are becoming more main stream and less awesome. If you go for the turd, make sure you get one from a good butcher that will prepare it fresh; don't go for the frozen one in a box at Safeway.

A nice Roasted duck with a basic pasta. And a sweeter red wine.

As much as I like the turducken idea I think that might be tough to pull off on such short notice.

Nancy: Is anyone ready for dessert?

Hugh: (angry) Well, let see! Scalloped potatoes still on my plate! Green beans still on my plate! Honey baked ham still on my plate! So I´d say no! I´m still eating.

Nancy: So, no?

Hugh: No.

Duck is great, especially if served with a nice sauce that has port and cherries in it.

Port is good no matter how you serve it. In a glass, in a sauce, you name name it. I would take a bath in port if I could afford it.
