Just took a look at that online .. interesting. I was thinking I'd need a cockpit to mount the wheel into, but maybe the Scuderia would work just as well.
Do you know where a person can buy them in Calgary? What do they cost?

This is the seat I have, along with a Logitech G25 wheel. Haven't had a lot of chance to use it, but it's decent for the price. I have to play with it some more as far as setup goes, because I'm only 5'6" and I think I basically have it extended as far as it can go, and because of the bar that the wheel is mounted on being so far out it interferes with my feet getting to the pedals. Part of that is my preference as to where I like my wheel to sit, which is down and away from me. If I can handle bringing the wheel closer to me I can move that bar out away from the pedals and will have more room there.

I haven't played a GT game since the second one, as I got heavy into the Papyrus Nascar series and F1 racing online, as they were far more realistic driving games (ie no sliding around walls for 3 hours while not changing tires during races), but IIRC there is a proper cockpit view as well as damage in this one, so might be worth the purchase.

In Calgary - no, sorry. As far as mounting the wheel went, I bought a triangular Lak table from Ikea for about $10.00 and mounted it to that.

Are there cheaper/ghetto ways to mount a wheel?
I was thinking something like a side table, bar table or a TV tray, but with some of the new force feedback wheels, I think you wouldn't be able to turn without flipping it unless you bolted it to the ground, or maybe put like 15 lb dumbbells on each leg.

Currently, all I use is a card table to attach the wheel. It works as far as steering goes, but is never quite the perfect height relative to the couch. A designated chair would be much better which is why I am considering buying a racing cockpit for GT5.

I mounted my Xbox 360 wheel onto a $10 IKEA table. Worked quite well. Table was about 1.5 feet by 1.5 feet, and like 2 feet tall.

$130 will buy a good stand but yeah you could just make one yourself from Canadian Tire.
Two planks of plywood for the base, PVC piping for the stand. Plywood with the proper holes drilled for the wheel platform.

I can make the stand easy enough, but how can I buy the girl?

delayed again? My first thought is that my friend lives in relative isolation and GT is all he has. There is a 2:1 chance he goes completely Jack Nicholson on me. Secondly, if this gets further delayed Sony will have absolutely nothing for the holiday season.

Looks like the game was three days late and missed it's window for replication which caused the delay. During this time it's apparently really difficult to get time to author BluRay discs and by PD missing their window they had to delay the game many weeks so they could make enough copies.

The other story is that the reason it was delayed three days was because they had to move from SDK 3.40 to SDK 3.50 because of the security vulnerability and the worry that people would be able to pirate copies of the game.

Hah, I guess that means my friend with the PS3 jailbreak has to buy a new PS3 to play this.

How do the pedals stay on the stand? They're in a different place every time

I used a belt. The kind you put on your pants.
But it comes with a rubber sticky pad that gives it good grip, like the stuff jar openers are made of. You can see it in one of the pictures.

How do those racing seat thingies fit for taller guys? I'm 6'3" and I would really like to get a setup like that. Ideally I would go with a wheel that supports the Xbox and 360 (for Forza) but I'm not too keen on the stand and wheel and then using your couch.

Your height only hinges on how far the pedals are as the wheel height depends on your couch so just make sure you have something or make something where the pedals can be further away while the wheel is still at the regular driving position.

This delay must have really been unexpected and SONY must have really been pushing the November 2nd release date to retailers because the Futureshop, Best Buy, and Source flyers this week are advertising the game as coming out on that day.

I pre-ordered from Gamestop/EB website, and my ship date has changed from Nov 2 to Nov 16th. Wonder if that will be accurate or not.
