Somebody in my family had a few Petro Canada franchises for 4 years. Gave them up for a bigger franchise this year.
I would see people buying so much. One lady used to come in everyday and buy $60-$100 of lottery every single day. I think she already had a lot of money to waste.

If any of the lotto corps. outside BC have Keno (it's a draw that happens every 4 minutes), you'll see people easily drop $1-200 a day on that stupid game.

I won $400 on Keno years ago at "The Whaler" in North Delta, then I split another $400 winning ticket with a Buddy at "The Side-track" under the Alex Fraser bridge.
Loved that Keno! .....Good times, Good times.

If I ran a store I'd overcharge on purpose now, since people will never reject a ticket again!
Here's your $100 ticket.. OH you meant $10, sorry!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think stores make any money on lottery tickets (or transit passes). They sell them in hopes that when people come in to buy them, they puchase other items as well.

Free $5.00 play, last Friday's drawing was the first time I have ever played.
I hope the winning tradition continues.

I don't know if it depends on the type of store/franchise, but yes you can/do make monthly money from it. My cousin made money at his Petro Canadas for lottery sales. Very small percentage, but he still did.

Yes we do. 5 cents per dollar. Bus tickets/passes, at least in BC are maybe half that at best. It may be peanuts in say a convenience store, but it can add up really quick, especially since the most expensive bus pass is $153.
Plus, remember that there are lottery booths in malls. The revenue is *all* lottery, maybe bus passes too.

Oh, Keno in itself is a fun game, but I see people every day addicted to the thing... and lose tons.

Yeah, I used to work at a convenience store in my teenage years and people went nutty if you screwed up their tickets. One lady yelled at us because she had to buy the ticket we printed her even though it was wrong. We also had the owner of the restaurant in the same mini mall come in every Friday and buy at least $500 worth.

Why did she have to buy it?

Because that ticket that we printed off could have been the winning ticket. A superstitious lot, those hardcore lotto players. I guess she was trying to avoid the situation that occurred in the article. She freaked though. And nothing is funnier to a couple of 18 year old till jockeys than a supertstitious old lady.

Sometimes it's like the mental olympics trying to get the people working in the stores to print out the correct tickets though.
My habit is every week to go and buy 10 "quick picks" with NO extra. Most of the time it is a simple process... ten quick picks on one ticket... ticket costs $20.
But often enough they will give me ten "Lucky Dips" with the extra on each ticket. I have to stop them and void the tickets all the time. I have been in arguments with jerks at the stores who tell me that a "quick pick" is the same as a "lucky dip" and therefore comes with the extra, or that the "quick picks" need to be on different tickets. It's frustrating sometimes. I have never even worked in those stores, but I know how to use the machine to print off the tickets. Now I carry an old ticket with me so I can show them that it is possible.

I just found out you can do a 8 or 9 number combo with the Lotto Max. Still quite a bit of money through for that many numbers.

It might be a BC thing, but it is 2 quick picks and an extra - $5 ticket. They call them "Lucky Dips" for some reason.
That is why I get pissed when I ask for 10 quick picks ($20) and get 10 Luck Dips ($50). And because I'm a fool, I am also supersitious about rejecting tickets. I'll do it, but it ruins my mojo...

We don't have Lucky Dips anymore. They're called Quick Dips (the $5 ticket).
And I HATE that name because it sounds too much like Quick Pick - which is also why they keep giving you 10 Quick Dips I imagine.
If you say ten Quick Picks, no Extra (don't wait for them to ask you if you want the Extra), if the cashier is at all smart they'll figure it out. Or you say $20 of Quick pick, no Extra..or something like that.

i thought i read a story in the paper where some guy near edmonton went into a store and requested a lottomax "quick pick" ticket and was given one for 6/49 instead and he won a couple of million - perhaps i was completely wrong on this though.
