Also since Staios and Sarich shoot right, their trade value goes up also.
right shooter or not, staios has little trade value given his contract and age. He's here for his compete level and shot blocking ability, more than his handedness i think.

that's why i see sarich on the out. Like i said, regher, sarich, staios are basically the same player (style of play more than quality). regehr's a good dman at his price. staios is harder to move. That makes sarich the odd one out in my opinion.

Why, like at the end of the season did we and do we continue putting our best dman on the 3rd pairing? Gio sees a lot of pp time but he's on the 3rd pairing for 5 on 5 when he was this team's best dman. I'd like to see:

JBo-Gio
Regehr-White
Pardy-Sarich/Staios
Pelech

agreed. what last year showed us is that Gio made whichever partner he played with better, easily noted by the stat sheets looking better for bouwmeester/sarich when they played with him.

a successful bouwmeester is more important than a successful sarich/staios (guys playing 15 mins a game ideallY). therefore, gio needs to play top line mins with bouwmeester in my opinion.

I would like to see Gio up on the top pair too, but i really do not want to see Pardy + Sarich/Staios as a pairing. If two of those 3 guys go bye-bye and the flames land a D who can skate for the bottom pairing, that would be much better

Bouw - Gio
Regehr - White
NEW D - Pelech/Staios/Sarich
Pardy/Pelech as spare (Pelech only sits if one of Staios/Sarich is there, or new D is Right sided)

You don't trade Sarich AND Regehr. I think you get rid of Staios for sure and one of Sarich or Regehr. I think it will be Sarich that is moved but if you want to change leadership Regehr is a good option to move. I think you need one of those guys in a shutdown role. Look how valuable they are in the playoffs

Sarich and Staois can leave for a bag of peanuts for all I care. You gotta keep Regehr though. If he gets his game back up to where it used to be, he is well worth his money.

All depends, if you can trade both and get assets to either trade for a top 6 player and/or be able to sign a forward and top 4D you make the moves.

Sarich was playing better than Regehr last year after he recovered from his injury.

I disgaree. 1 year left, its very little risk for a team who has salary space to take on a #6 veteran RH D.

I don't know what Staios is worth but the way things are going, we'll trade him for negative value and he'll end up leading some young team into the playoffs.

IMO, Staois is very similar to Aaron Ward in many aspects.

All according to NHL.com

Staois
36 years old
RH
Slow skating
Defensive minded, good for about 10-15 points a season.
Gritty veteran, with leadership.
Making 2.7 million. 1 year left.

Ward
37 years old
RH
Slow skating
Defensive minded, good for about 10-15 points a season.
Gritty veteran, with leadership.
Making 2.5 million. Now a UFA.

NOW, we look at how many times Ward has been traded despite his salary, age, etc.

2009/10 - Ward traded to Ducks for Justin Pogge and 4th round pick.

2008/2009 - Ward traded to Hurricanes for Patrick Eaves and 4th round pick.

THis happened back to back in the last 2 years. AND Ward was making 2.5 million each year. Staios is making 2.7 million. SO very comparable. So please tell me again why Staios isnt tradable and no teams are interested in older veteran D?? Especially with 1 year left on their contracts.

Where does it say "slow skating" on nhl.com?

Or for that matter "Defensive minded, good for about 10-15 points a season"

Sarich was +7 after the Olympics (Where he claims he finally got over his injury), +11 if stop counting after they were officially eliminated from playoff contention. I think he may be worth keeping if he keeps that form.

If so, I'd keep Sarich purely for making Giordano that much better. Gio was +13 after the Olympic break.

Right. It was Sarich that made Gio better and not the other way around.

I'd say they fed off eachother and made for a solid pairing.

One guy doesn't make the other guy only register 2 minus games in the last 19.
