Much better than the deer in headlights Russian defense.
Outside of Chara, that is not better than the Russian D at all, and he can't be on the ice for 60 mins. Half of the D is borderline NHLers.

The clock strikes 12 at 7:30 MST tonight and the giant killers finally taste the bottom of the behemoths boot.

If Canada can get a goal early I expect 6-8 goals again and a 3+ goal win.

5-2 Canada. I think we match up really well vs Slovakia and the only way it stays a 1 goal game is if Halak plays the game of his life.

Crosby will be seeing a lot of Chara.

Canada: Heatley, Crosby, Iginla, Nash, Weber

Slovakia: Hossa, Gaborik

Peter Maher mentioned that Slovakia is the biggest team here in the Olympics. They win already!

I don't see what's so impressive about Halak? On paper, he's probably about the 10th best goalie in the tourny and on the ice he hasn't exactly looked spectacular (although he's been solid).

Russia's defense is just as good as Slovakia's - the difference is that Slovakia's forwards are committed to playing some brand of defense whereas the Russians clearly were not.

I think we all could live with losing to Sweden in this game. But not Slovakia.

5-2 Canada.

Visnosky and Mezeros are established NHLers. They've already held both the Russian and Swedish offense. Better than useless KHLers the Russians were carrying.

Canada wins it 4-2. Won't be a blowout like Russia was.

That defense looks pretty weak to me. Visnosky? LOL Chara is the only defense man that is good IMO.

Quick question - how did Sweden play against Slovakia?

Was Slovakia outworking and outhitting them a la the US against Canada, or did Sweden come out really weak and Slovakia just got lucky?

I ask this because I'm still a bit shocked that Slovakia beat Sweden. The Swedish roster was, from my perspective, a really good team and for Slovakia to beat them it either means (a) Sweden played badly and Slovakia took advantage of that, or (b) Slovakia outplayed them and shut them down.

If it's (a), then Canada should be alright. But if it's (b), I'd be quite worried. Canada faced very little fight and resistance from Russia, but were beaten earlier by a very hard nosed American team and were nearly beaten by a weaker but very determined Swiss team. A hard working and overachieving team is, in my opinion, what Canada is weakest against.

I'll be the first to admit that we have a lot of bad players (Horcoff, Staios, Moreau, etc etc) but Visnovsky is a solid defenseman. He's easily a 1st pairing defenseman and does it all.
