Man l'm gonna miss that place.

And sometimes when the troughs were full you'd have to go to a stall. I liked that better because you could just piss everywhere but in the toilet and it didn't even matter. The walls, the floor, anything goes!

Had some friends that stayed up for most of their 10th anniversary-they were open 24/7 for 10 days straight-Acid is a hell of a drug. They played some cool music there, and I did see some cool acts over the years as well, not sure I can say I'll miss it though, as I haven't been in quite a while. I'm sure if the old republik was still open, I would still go there.

Listening to the Smalls in the underground, smoking reefer in the parking lot adjacent to it, great times back in the day!

I can't remember ever being asked to "join" their "private club" on any of my visits. I imagine that they slowly forgot or ignored that small part of their license. Too bad it couldn't have been resolved amicably instead of just pulling the plug.

Here's more on that private club issue. Sounds like the owner figured it would be a private (after hours) club or no club at all.

I love the smalls. I even wear a flourescent orange smalls gig shirt circa 1993 to this day. As a matter of fact, during the show that I bought that shirt at, my buddy and I helped put the lead singer of Placebo on top of the mosh pit as they had just opened for the smalls. You may better know the lead singer of Placebo as none other than LESLEY FEIST!!!
It's my only claim to fame so cut me some slack.

I love this quote..
"It's not like I was running some underground crime scene," he said. "It's not like this was a blight on Calgary and everybody will breath a sigh of relief. . . .
" Everyone just goes there to dance."
I'm sure the extasy had nothing to do with that

Just to clarify She was the lead singer of a calgary based band called Placebo.
Not the lead singer of the well known British band Placebo

Bands of yesteryear
Mad caddies, AFI (pre garbage years), Death By stereo, Dayglo Abortions, Raised Fist and Calgarys own Knucklehead. Great venue for bands in that genre. Bathrooms not even a homeless person would use.

I saw John O'Callaghan there last year. It was really good. I definitely would have went back there, but I guess not anymore.
